Guest guest
First of all Debbie, don't be so hard on yourself! You're not an interior decorator, how should you know? I think usually semi-gloss is used in bathrooms and kitchens, high traffic areas, and on trim. What color is the living room? I think generally you are " supposed " to go with a flat or satin paint on most walls. But maybe once you have pictures up and stuff the walls won't look so shiny. Sorry I'm not more help. I'm absolutely totally disgusted w/myself right now! My husband drywalled our living room & we just painted it Saturday. He wanted to go w/ " satin " paint. I said, " no, no " lets go with " semi-gloss " . I don't like flat paint at all, esp. with a toddler. Now the room shines like I've never seen & the paint seems to look uneven! Is this a big no no to put semi gloss paint in a living room??????? My sister (whose house is decorated w/Ethan furniture) says it's a big interior designer NO. That it looks aweful, blah blah blah. Thanks a lot sister!!! My house is decorated with hand me down ugly furniture, etc......I obviously am clueless when it comes to decorating! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!! Heaven forbid I tell my dear husband his walls look like crap cuz of MY stupidity!!!! He's worked SO hard & really did a beautiful job. Do any of you have semi gloss in your living/family rooms?????????????????????????????? I'm making myself sick right now. Thanks in advance! Guest guest
How about repainting in the same color but in an eggshell finish. This way you may only have to do one coat. Eggshell is one level up from flat and is easy to clean but not shiny.
Guest guest
Debbie: My Mom used semi-gloss throughout her house, and I thought it looked fine. I'm no decorating guru either, so I can't really be of help, but just wanted to jump in about my Mom's walls. Guest guest
I have seen a really nice wall treatment done with both flat and glossy paint. You mark off very large stripes and paint them in the same color but every other one in glossy. It looks amazing. Anne Mom of Livia ----- Original Message ----- From: dj2kirby@... Guest guest
I have seen a dining room and a living room done in this way. I also saw a fancy bathroom on some decorator show on tv. The living room is done in a burgandy paint and it looks great. the dining room is done in a cream colored paint and it also looks great. I want to do it in my living room, but i am hesatant about getting my stripes into straight lines! I might have my friend come over and do the masking as hers are perfect. Guest guest
Anne: That sounds gorgeous! It must be nice to have such talents. I am honestly the worst at anything artsy - I struggled with stickers on Abby's bands :'(. I really wish I had some talent, oh well, I guess I can always get by on my good looks LOL - hey none of you know what I look like (besides Kendra & Marci, ohoh) so I can get away with that statement in here, teehee. My walls really do look just fine, I just let my sister put doubt into my insecure mind. Hubby put one more coat of one wall that needed it & it looks better. Good luck with that striping, it sounds so cool! Debbie Abby's mom DOCgrad 6/22/01 > I have seen a dining room and a living room done in this way.
