Guest guest
Cliff it is rare to see someone bilaterally implanted with 2 different systems but they are out there. In Massachussetts I do know of 2 people who have the original single channel implant system called the ineraid and have been implanted in the other ear with another implant. I do know of couple of others who have been implanted with 2 different systems. but most of the time they are implanted bilaterally with the same system. It is easier on the brain. Guest guest
Cliff, It can be done but I don't think it's done in the same surgery ever. I was given the choice but counseled that the mapping would be difficult as it requires two different computers with software. Since I was already accustomed to hearing with the implant choice I made the first time, it was felt that it would also be easier on me. I was not told that one would be better than the other. If you are considering this, it sounds like something you should sit down and talk to your audiologist about. It's probably do able but complicated. Sound is sound so maybe you would hear the same thing from each one and that would be the challenge - to balance them? I really don't know - this is just a guess on my part. Guest guest
Hi , Wow! I couldn't believe I read you had two friends with that old Ineraid system. I also have one friend who is still trying to use that system but is unable to get parts for it. Do you have contact information for your two Ineraid friends? I would love to ask them where they get replacement parts such as cables and earhooks. My friend is going crazy because she is afraid she will be completely deaf once more. She was completely deaf for 25 years before she had the opportunity to get the Ineraid. Any information you may have on contacts for Ineraid supplies would be appreciated. --Gayle ===================================================================== > Cliff it is rare to see someone bilaterally implanted with 2 different systems but they are out there. Guest guest
Snoopy...Thanks for responding. My friend doesn't have any health insurance anymore and is searching for an organization which may be able to help with the financial aspects. I've already given her the names that I've seen on this forum so maybe there is some help out there. She's checking now with countries in Europe as the Ineraid is still in use there, or so I've been told. --Gayle ===================================================================== > Gayle I believe that they dont make the ineraid parts anymore...> > Snoopy > > ============================================================ > From: " Gayle " <gayle227@y...> > Date: 2004/11/12 Fri AM 11:25:55 EST > > Subject: Re: Bilaterally implanted with different systems ? > > ============================================================ > > > >
