Guest guest
Hi Dora, I'm sorry haven't heard or read about using split array for hybrid implant solution. With split array, the surgeon drills the cochlea, isn't it? I wonder if the surgeon can predict where the electrodes are going. And in case the surgeon drills the cochlea, will the implantee be able to retain the hearing from drilling? Regards/ Jerome Hybrid Hi Jerome I guess I am thinking of the split array electrode. But if a surgeon can implant the split array on both " Ends " of the cochlea why can't he implant the Hybrid array only on the end where the low pitches are? Guest guest
Hi Jerome The surgeon needs to drill an opening near the round window in order to insert the electorde array whether it is a split array or a Hybrid.yes,I would say that he could predict where the electrode would go in either case. And yes ..he must know that the undamaged nerve cells will not be effected. Guest guest
This is only my opinion but I am not so keen on the Hybrid. The fact that I have a hearing loss in the highs does not mean it can't go to the lows. If you get the Hybrid, you use a shorter electrode array and that allows the useable hearing in the how frequencies to remain intact. If you should lose those lows then you can have another surgery to insert a regular electrode array that is there on the Hybrid but hadn't been used. My thing was that I might as well get the regular array and not have to take a chance on another surgery. Again, only my opinion.
Guest guest
Thanks very much . Is there any place on the web that might have more information on the Nucleus hybrid? Thanks, Tim > > This is only my opinion but I am not so keen on the Hybrid. The fact that I > have a hearing loss in the highs does not mean it can't go to the lows.
