Guest guest
Ultrasound - the application if high energy sound waves to cause an increase in body temperature as a result of friction prodcued at the molecular level that is created as the sound waves strike different body tissues. From " How to Raise a Healthy Child... " R. Mendelsohn: p. 38, " ...Unfortunately, he probably won't warn you about the even greater risks present in some of the treatments that he may employ. fetal damage can also be caused by prescription drugs, x-rays taken during pregnancy, ultra sound, and procedures such as amniocentesis... " He goes into great detail in another book " Male Practice: How Doctors Manipulate women " . p. 40, " ...'very suspicious hints' that children exposed to ultrasound in the womb may be developing leukemia and other cancers in higher numbers than unexposed children. A WHO report calling for extensive research on the hazards of ultra-sound and restraint in its use, had this to say about benefits versus risks: Choosing end points for study is especially difficult in human subjects. Latent periods easily could be as long as 20 years in the case of cancer development, or the effect may not be seen for another generation... Because the human fetus is sensitive to other forms of radiatio there is considerable concern that it may also be sensitive to ultrasound... Animal studies suggest neuro-logic, immunologic, and hematologic possibilities for studies in humans. there is some evidence that if the exposure is within the priod of organogenesis, congenital malformations may result from exposure to ultrasound in laboratory animals. In general these end points in animal studies have been unexplored in humans and should be followed up wherever possible... It is not clear at this time whether ultrasound fetal monitoring is beneficial to the mother or fetus in terms of pregnancy outcome and this, above all, should be examined closely; if there is no generally acknowledged benefit to the monitoring, there is no reason to expose patients to increased costs and possible risks. " References: Environmental Health Criteria Report No. 22, Ultrasound, WHO Geneva 1982.; Safe Form of Radiation Arouses New Worry, Philip Boffey - The NY Times 8/2/83.; <A HREF= " http://users.aol.com/kristachan/usound.htm " >Pregnancy and Parenting Naturally</A> " Guide to Effective Care in Pregnancy and Childbirth " , Murray Enkin <A HREF= " http://home.hkstar.com/~joewoo/safecamp.htm " >Ultrasound and Delayed Speech</A> This should be a good start. Add to that the things we know, which several moms have posted, and you should have a wealth of information regarding your opinion of US. If you want to know about ultrasounds, then YOU do the research. Stay up day and night for 1 month, as I did, and search until your eyes cross. Then you can make up your own mind. And now for my notes: FYI, an anecdote is a story told for reason of entertainment. I don't look at my personal experiences in that manner, nor does anyone I know. My question to you is this -- you don't immunize. So you've obviously questioned the status quo, against the majority already. Why would you think radiation would be okay to point at a defenseless developing human being? Even common sense would tell you that this can't be okay. Babies regularly show discomfort during the procedure. Do you hang out in a jacuzzi set at 120 deg in your 3rd month? No. That would be stupid. But just as with vaccines, seemingly, the majority seemed to emerge unscathed, and so the procedure is justified. The medical community has done even less research on US as they have vaccines - so they can't prove safety any more than anyone can prove unsafety. Therefore, you must read what you can, add personal experiences, talk to people who've been there, then use common sense to make up your mind. US changes things at the moleculor level -- where, in God's green earth, did you get the belief that this was okay? Understandably it is used in holistic medicine, under warranted circumstances, and usually as a last option. But routinely? No. Not ever. YOU inferred that because I didn't immediately offer solid fact-based AMA funded research stats, that I was throwing something out to *new* moms that would scare them silly for no good reason. Your questioning of the validity of my statements that my son's problems WERE caused by the US, INFERRED that you believed I was somehow making something up that just couldn't be found in fact. <Please do not take this personal. It has nothing to do with you. it has to do with creating change.> Change is NEVER going to happen as long as people like you insist that everyone have their ducks in a row, backed up with valid research, and experts who have given 'factual " testimony. THERE IS NO GOOD RESEARCH OUT THERE. And you should know that from the vaccine issues now surfacing. Most of the arrows point in the way of " do it or face harming your child " . For years many of us knew instinctively, and from our own experiences that vaccines were not safe for many reasons. Much of that came from common sense. Do you then believe that unless a mother has good solid research to back up her feelings, she should go ahead and allow doctors to use intervention for any reason when treating her children? I have been hearing about the possible risks of US since the 70s. Please tell me you don't live in a cave. You should have said to me " gosh, I don't remember EVER hearing that the US carried risks. Can you give me a link or two? " because, quite frankly, I have no intention of re-doing research I have long since put away. Here is how I work it: I am NOT a full-time researcher. I am a full-time mother. Anytime I research something, I have usually already felt that there is something *wrong* with it, otherwise I wouldn't bother. I look over, and read what I can, then make my decision. Once the decision is made, and my personal experience backs up that decision, I'm pretty much done with the issue. anyone who knows me from the boards will tell you that I usually only point people in a direction to gather info themselves. I rarely share links or go over the hundreds of things I have found. I will share my personal experiences, so that moms know there are other possibilities that do happen, whether the medical community likes it or not. I admire the moms that do keep researching, but in my life, that would be beating a dead horse, and I don't have that kind of time. I also appreciate the fact that they keep me up to date on issues that I have a personal interest in, however, as I stated, I no longer feel a need to search to the ends of the earth for more and more information to back up a stance I took long ago. <BTW, I would not be surprised if US can cause harm at certain frequencies, as I said in nature, marine mammals can stun their prey with it and also, read each others emotions with it, among other things. My thoughts are that it can be both good and bad.> First of all, different kind of US. My bil, who does a lot of animal research can tell you that - and he works with marine animals as well. the kind of US we are talking about is MAN MADE, it is induced, not natural, and it has been proven to change tissue. <The other thing you may want to know that the knowlege that an US can provide has much more to do with the skill and ability of the interpretar then the equipment. > This is all good and well, however, the majority of US are done for 1 of 2 reasons: To get a picture of the fetus, or to get a more accurate idea of the due date. Both of which I address on my webpage and will not go into here. Once in a while there may be a *perceived* threat. A *what if* scenario -- smacks to me of the same kind of mentality that got parents to herd their kids in for shots in the 70s. And look what that did for us. There was no *real* threat to 90% or greater of the population. But, a little scare tactic never hurt anyone, right? Okay, I'm done with this string. I really felt this was a group that had already, and was in the process of doing research. If I wanted to spend hours of my time, rehashing old issues and going back over all my *stuff* just to *prove* a point to a naysayer, I'd spend more time on the boards, where I can get bashed any time by *professionals*. I really just wanted a discussion, conversation, and support with like-minded people. Guest guest
I read somewhere that ultrasound destroys brain cells in laboatory mice. This was in a study that was done. I did some reseach of my own when I was pregnant with my youngest son. I was concerned because I was given at least 4 ultrasounds done on me during my pregnancy. Guest guest
I'm really excited for you all - take care and enjoy. No, life does not need to be planned every second of the way. Route 66 - our equivalent maybe Highway 1 - well if you were heading to Sydney via the coast. Don't know the numbers of our highways from East to West or other directions. Ps. Who is Shan? Sort of one of those scary moments - I have a Trent and I Shannen - who is often referred to us Shan. Keep smiling Jan From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Leis Sent: Thursday, 29 October 2009 3:04 PM undisclosed-recipients: Subject: Us Hi all Time a for a very quick update!! As most of you know already, we are leaving Adelaide. We fly out of here on Fri 20th Nov at 645pm. We have nearly filled the skip bin- we are getting moving quotes. So my nails will be properly ruined by all this packing and moving. We will put our stuff in storage for as long as it takes, and we shall be taking a roadtrip to see where we wanna go. Tis perfect timing really as Trent and Shan have nearly finished the book ( fingers and toes crossed ) and the kids are a good age to take a few weeks off school. is not coping well at school, so we would have been looking a special needs setting for him next year anyways. The house will be sold, and we will look at renting to start with, then buy again later when we settle.............. We shall sell the Big Red Bus- and buy something in Sydney- ours doesnt have air con......so we need a new one..............and we dont have a cd player......... Sorta like a Route 66 thing but here in Oz So I will be taking the address book and the kids will be writing out tons of postcards I have a Santa key so Santa knows where we are in case we are still in transit. Tis sorta scary but exciting too- to have the opportunity to just wing it for a few weeks and do and go where we like............. I am not used to winging it, but my Sydney trip taught me that not everything in life needs to be planned- you can have fun without it........so we are putting that to the test in a big way You dont get many opportunities like this in life, so we are grabbing it with both hands and we are going with the wind. So most of you wont see much of me for a tad............others will still get annoying emails and texts Prob more texts than emails As Trent and I Will have to share a laptop LOL How will we cope???? hehehehehehehe Again- will be interesting .........
