Guest guest
Hi everyone! Happy New Year! It's incredibly trite, but today -- January 1, 2006 -- is the start of the " homestretch " for me. After eating very carefully in early December, I let things go over the past 10 days. Weighed this AM, up a couple pounds (possibly b/c it's my TOM) and decided that it was time to get back on the weight loss horse. My FIL used to say something like, " It's back to fish heads and rice " after a big holiday meal. The implication was that the diet started tomorrow. So now it's tomorrow, and I really hope to get to my goal weight in the next few months. And then, the hope is to maintain it! I joke that maintenance -- always the hardest part of the journey for me -- is like opening Pandora's box just a little bit. Usually, it involves eating a little more than during the weight loss phase. If one was counting carbs previously, it might mean allowing more carbs. For me, this can quickly degenerate into a chocolate and junk food bonanza! Following a strict diet is boring, but it's often easier than eating everything in moderation. Those of you who are freshly post-op need not worry about this stuff -- I remember when dinner was a saltine and Gatorade! -- but for a lot of us, there come a time when additional weight loss requires moderating food intake. As I've said before, I'm on the " no excuses " program right now. Not going to talk about slow metabolism, big bones...I'm going for that idea weight! But maintaining it may be really tough. Stay tuned! So, after being cooped up for the past couple days with my urchins, I got up, grabbed the dog, and went for a walk/jog. Felt GREAT. Kind of funny...my doggie is a whippet, and on some of the hills, it was like that scene in the Grinch, where the little doggie pulls the sled up the hill. My little 30 pound doggie was pulling me along! The last time I jogged was four or five months ago, when I was 30 pounds heavier! I'd like to run some races this spring, so I'm hoping that the weather cooperates and I can get back to jogging most days. We'll see how it goes... Enough rambling. Hope you are all having a wonder New Year's Day. If you, like me, are back to fish heads and rice, I hope it goes well! Joanie 5/25/04 Drs.
