Hi Minnie

I am so happy to know that you will soon have your CI surgery. As for staples or

stitches ..i had staples after my first two CI surgeries and desolvable stitches

after my second. The only difference was that I didn't have to have the surgeon

take the stitches out. I had to return to the clinic about 10 days after surgery

to have the staples removed.I have heard from some whose primary care physician

removed them.If you have a gentle nurse or surgeon it will not hurt to have the

staples removed.

Hi Andy,

My name is Astrid and I am from the Netherlands, just like Isabella.

I have had myotomy at the end of February last year. I also had 5 small holes, but my surgeon, Dr. Schulz had made some tiny stitches on the inside, which dissolved. I therefore did not have to have any staples removed. Funny how the methods vary..

I am sending you this message off the board, as I still need to prepare some messages to other members and I didn't get to do that yet. I don't want them to think I have forgotten all about them. I really didn't as I too have had much support from this group. Not sure if you have read my earlier posts, but I have had some complications following the myotomy (cardiac tamponade, very rare, nobody's fault, just bad luck) and am still recovering. Not only from the surgery and the complications, but also other things around that.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi and congratulate you with the good result of your surgery. You are really doing well so soon after. The reason why I decided to write to you is that I want to make sure you take it easy with your dogs. I too have dogs, two German Shepherds. Not sure what kind of dogs you have. I think you know about the lifting restriction. I wasn't allowed to lift anything over 5 kilos for 6 weeks. If you dogs pull a lot, be carefull, as that will also put some force on your chest and coud harm your inside. My husband used to walk the dogs for a couple of weeks. I have read about the loss of your son - so sorry you had to go through that as well. Also that probably means you are on your own regarding the dogs.

Take care!

Best wishes from Astrid

Staples or stitches

Hi

Just a little question for you experienced Achalasian’s – what the usual method of closure on the lap myotomy I have 14 metal staples – 2 in 2 cuts, 3 in 2 cuts and 4 in the other cut. All the cuts are very small though but I am not looking forward to having them removed on Friday – take some pain relief first I think would be a good idea.

Andy

When they took my staples out they didn't bother me at all. The only one that bothered me was the one at the very top of my incision and it was just a little sting and then it was over.
