well it was at the least not lacking in any area, you got time out, a nice

meal, some quiet, beautiful sunset, romance, and a little adventure before

the night is over, happy aniversary, shawna and family.

  • 6 years later...

It was one year ago today that I woke up from my surgery thinking... OMG it

actually happened! I was just so sure that something would go wrong and I would

not be able to have the MGB... but things went smoothly and one year later and

several sizes smaller here I am!!

My weight in May of last year was 250 pounds... I had chronic back pain, a

leaky bladder and some icky skin problems in my fat folds, just to name a few

problems. When on vacation in Florida with my three sisters, I was barely able

to fit into a roller coaster ride. I was so embarassed because I was not

fitting so I sat wedged in on one hip and rammed the lap bar down til it

clicked. It was a painful ride not to mention likely not very safe... but I

would have rather died than to be told " sorry maam, you're too big for the

ride " . That's when I decided I was coming home and going back to that CLOS site

that I had belonged to some 18 months before. I was going to have a

mini-gastric bypass no matter what I had to do to make it happen.

I have lost 120 pounds in the past year. I was a little too thin at 122 but

I've managed to gain 5 pounds and I'm holding at 127 now. I'll be having my

blood work done next week to determine my nutritional status etc... but I have

had some problems with low iron, low protein and one other thing in the past.

My only complaint with the whole MGB experience has been with nausea and

vomiting. I had severe nausea and vomited right after surgery and was

successfully treated with the Bariatric Coctail. But it just keeps on coming

back. I would go weeks without any nausea and then I'd start an episode that

might last weeks. I have been in a bit of a remission since attending the MGB

picnic in Bay City. Each time this happens I hope that the nause is gone for

good, but so far it's always come back. During my nausea-free spell I have even

been able to gain back a few pounds that I really needed. Now there's an

experience that most obese people never get to experience... I needed to gain a

few pounds.... hahahahaha

Would I do it again????? Annually if necessary. I used to have 8 to 10

facet blocks (freezing injections in my spine) and an epidural every 10 days to

manage the pain in my low back... I have not required any pain management

treatments since my third month post-op. I was unable to walk any distance

prior to surgery without having debilitating sciatic pain - now I can actually

walk for hours without pain or fatigue.

Once again I would like to thank all of those people who have helped me

through this journey.... especially my patient contacts and the many new friends

I've made along the way.

Now I am hoping that this time next year, my sister Lori will be posting her

one year anniversary results! Then we need to do that Florida vacation again...

this time as four fit an healthy sisters.

Hugs Kim
