Guest guest
Leigh, Our ortho did kind of leave it up to us. He suggested continuing so we did. At a certain point began removing the helmet - not because it was uncomfortable, but because she could! That was when we decided we would be finished. Perhaps Olivia could just wear the helmet at night when she is sleeping. That seems to be the time when babies would be most at risk. Hope this helps and welcome back!! Guest guest
Hi to all! My web tv has been on the blink and now I'm so far behind I don't know where to start. I see a lot of new members and names I don't even recognize! First to update on Olivia. We went for our 3 month follow-up appointment at the craniofacial specialist on 8/2/01. We were told that if we were satisfied with the shape of her head we could discontinue the helmet but they could still see a little room for more improvement. She's only wore the helmet since 5/24/01 and we have had tremendous results! We went ahead and had the helmet adjusted, they were even able to take the chin strap off. Olivia will be a year old on 9/22 so we decided to keep on with the helmet and see how much more change we could get. In the days following the appt. we had record high temps of 95-100 degrees which we rarely see up here in Michigan. She was so miserable in her helmet I think I had it off more than on! To make matters worse, her older sister decided to pull her around on the living room floor and now she has a huge RUG BURN on the back of her head and we can't put the helmet on! Here's my dilemma--do I just give up on it? Lately when she does wear it she starts yanking on it after about an hour. Could it be getting too small? I feel guilty now when she doesnt' wear it, she's gone 3 nights without it now (mostly due to the rug burn). People keep telling me just put it in the closet and be done but I feel like Olivia may be getting jipped of total correction. Have others had their docs just leave it up the them as to whether or not they're done? Please Help! Sorry this is so long but I have just been agonizing over this! Guest guest
Hi Leigh: Welcome back - I understand what you're saying about the heat in Michigan, we live in Grand Rapids. I just absolutely love today's weather, dreary & cool (strange aren't I?), I hate the hot, humid weather we'd been having. As for your questions, like Marci said, Olivia is probably tugging at her helmet now cuz she realized she can, and it's become a game, she is at a " game playing " age (ah, like the fabulous throw food/bottle off the high chair game, what fun!). And at the end of Abby's treatment, we became very laid back about her wearing her band, the weather was getting hot & I hated having her wear it, I guess after her wearing a band for 8 mos at that point, I reached my limit!! Marci's suggestion of only having her wear it at night is great, that's probably what I would do. I'm glad to hear you've seen such great improvement with the helmet. Do you do any gambling there in Mt. Pleasant?? My hubby & I have been there once to gamble, it's a nice town!
