Robin,

Hi! My name is ...

I am having a revision from a failed RNY...

My RNY worked for 18 months - I lost 125 pounds and

now I'm up 50 pounds so that's scary. My RNY was

7-99 so in the last 2 years that's where the 50 pounds

has come back on...

Good luck on your consult!!

Hi Marnie~

I'm Gia from land.

I had open rny in December of 1999 and after an initial phase of losing

quickly and then slowing down and gaining, I decided it would be better for

me to try and get the Duodenal Switch if at all possible.

==============================================

I know how you feel. I had the open rny in '99 and after wonderful initial

results I'm gaining my weight back. That is a lot to go through just to have

to do it again.

I'm looking seriously at the DS instead of some of the other

options. The rny works great for some folks and not so well for others.

Every

surgeon seems to do it differently as far as distal vs proximal, pouch size,

etc.

It's a crapshoot.

Good Luck,

Hutch

Hmmm, ...

I went to www.duodenalswitch.com <http://www.duodenalswitch.com> and found

a list of surgeons who perform the surgery, but there aren't any in Texas.

I need a revision, but I'd hate to get an RNY knowing there is something

better and more effective I could have had, ya know??

I already chose the wrong procedure the first go around when I got a VBG....

hello everyone

I'm Rosie in New Jersey.

I had stapling in 1986 at 290 pounds. It was not a success.....only lost 50

pounds....staples never made me feel full...and recent scope showed all

staples are gone...something I feel happened soon after the surgery...the

band is on place.....and has caused some vomiting ...

==============================================

I started out at 266 - " only " went down to 205 and never lost another pound

- I'm now back up to 266 and am trying for a revision by this summer (I'm

5'8 " )

Hello everybody! Actually I have joined this group to help a friend

that doesn`t own a computer(can you imagine that!).

had an RNY 2 years ago and lost great the first year, but since

has gained 40# back:

Hi,

Hi everyone,

I haven't been at the computer for a while. I had my revision to a

roux-en-y on Dec. 23rd. At three weeks post-op I had lost 40lbs.

I've developed severe nausea and dry heaves. No vomiting. I seem to

do ok if I don't move and stay in bed. Not really eating.

I had my surgery at Mayo clinic due to complications from an attempt

to do the surgery in July 2002 in Grand Rapids. My surgery took

between 9 and 10 hrs and involved a massive abdominal hernia and

massive seroma (fluid pocket of several liters) surrounding the

hernia. I was in the hospital at Mayo for 10 days. I am following

the protocol from their dietician. 2 flinstones, 2 tums ultra's

daily, monthly B-12 shot etc...

Thanks,

Hi Everyone!!

Since I'm waiting for insurance approval for my revision of my transected

proximal RNY to a distal RNY, I'm wondering what to expect or how to prepare

for life as a distal RNY. I know that my malabsorbtion of nutrients will

increase so protein and vitamin intake with be super critical.

============================================================

I desperately want a revision from my VGB (for which I paid $15,000

cash for in 1997) to a RNY. I have had enough of this throwing

up/gastric reflux business. The VGB was the biggest waste of money I

have ever spent. I feel like I actually paid someone to make me eat

soup and mashed potatoes for the rest of my life.

============================================================

Hi Everyone!!

I'm in the process of seeking insurance approval for a revision of my

proximal RNY to a distal RNY. I had first considered going back to my

original surgeon for a revision, but since he wasn't concerned by my failure

to reach goal or lack of weight loss, I felt I needed to go to a different

surgeon.

I did consult via email with Dr. Ara Keshishian in Delano, CA who performs

RNY to DS revisions. He said he would need to see my surgical report, but he

thought he could possibly help me. However he warned me that a RNY to DS

revision would be a very complicated surgery plus he estimated I would only

lose an additional 60 pounds (getting me down to 230 pounds).

Hi Everyone!!

I've been lurking for past weeks, but now I've decided to poke my head out

to seek advice.

My name is CB and I had WLS in December 2000. At the time I weighed 405

pounds and my BMI was 69. I now weigh 292 pounds and my BMI is 50.

The first six months after surgery I lost weight easily. I lost weight every

week and hit the magic 300 pounds by May 2001. Then my weight loss stalled

and I hit the world's longest plateau. My weight loss went from 10 pounds

per month down to 3 pounds per month to *horrors* gaining weight. From a

pre-op weight of 405 pounds, I had managed to get down to 279 pounds then my

weight crept back up to 300 pounds. Feeling out of control, I joined Weight

Watchers in November 2001 and managed to lose 13 pounds, but I've been stuck

around 285-290 ever since.

============================================================

I have had to have 2 endoscopies. I got my surgical report and this is what

it said, this should help you.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

We will place the pt on a proton pump inhibitor for at least a month to help

heal up the gastritis that she has in her gastric pouch. I do not think

that the vomiting problem will be easily solved. The pouch outlet has to be

kept at about 10mm (1 cm) in order for her to keep her weight off. If the

pouch outlet were enlarged much, then she would probably start gaining

weight again. The only other solution would be to convert her to a

Roux-en-Y gastric bypass which would allow for a larger pouch outlet and yet

allow her to keep her weight off. She will follow up with her surgeon.

============================================================

Hi, I wrote last week thinking I might have a problem with my proximal

rny(done in June 2000.)..after an upper GI and small bowel study and an

endoscopy this week, it was determined that the connection from my pouch to

intestine has opened up, and the radiologist says that it " empties rapidly

from the pouch to the intestine, which has a significant bulging, quite

larger than the pouch " . I was shown the pictures from the endoscopy, and it

is wide open going into the intestine. I am DEPRESSED about the news, but I

knew deep inside that something had gone wrong as I saw my weight going up,

and some discomfort... I saw Dr. Oliphant in Urbana, Illinois, liked him a

lot, but he says this is a very dangerous and complicated prospect with a

big

chance of leaking post op, and that he has not done this before.
