This was so good to see as my surgery is beginning to stare me in the

face. Love the long story too. Love the screen names, too funny the

humor in people on the CI lists and groups. Best of luck to you ,

keep the stories coming :)

Alice!! Right you were there for me and I was a bit hard to deal

with. I admit it..LMAO

I think there is not enough emphasis on the disappointments we face

in the beginning. I mean I would wear that CI all day and just cry

and cry AND CRY because it was not like anything I could understand.

It also distorted my right ear sounds .If I can tell anyone

considering an implant one thing it would be to understand the first

(maybe 2nd. and 3rd.)mappings can be terrible and frustrating. You

just want to throw the darn thing to the ground and tramp on it.I

even had a dream I did just that!! It was not like anything I

expected. But force yourself to wear it. Even if you can't understand

a thing. Which is what happened in my case. But DO NOT give up

because it does turn around and gets better every day. When I heard

my first sentence without looking at my audio I just about fainted.I

think it's the closest thing to a miracle I'll ever witness in this

life of mine. There are still times I sit back and think--why did I

wait so long? But I'm hearing..here and now and that's what

matters. No one can make you have a CI. I fought the notion for 7

years. When the time is right--YOU know it!!Also I'd like to say

the " metalic " robotic voices I heard in the beginning are now just as

I remembered them to be.No more metallic sound. Accents and all! Oh

and another thing (I said one huh?) it is great to listen to me and

everyone else say how things are with THEIR implant but everyone is

different. Just because you might not progress the way so and so does

does not mean you never will. Perhaps you'll do even better but it

might take a little longer. Soldier on...keep pluggin away because a

world of hearing IS within your reach with a cochlear implant.

congratulations on this wonderful report. It was very interesting

and gave a lot of information to people who are looking into the

implant. There are always questions on their minds that they don't

ask but you really just told this straight from your heart and inturn

answered some of those questions.

the questions, fears and doubts. I also remember when you were

unhappy but then things turned around and you were amazed at the

sound. This update is terriffic. Thanks..it was great to read it.

It's amazing how it turns lives around. I can tell you are enjoying

the sounds of life and that's really nice to know.
