Just to keep your choices more, the more choices you have, the more power to

you, add Med-El.

Advanced Bionics vs Cochlear Nucleus

My ENT wants to put a CI in my left ear. I need to decide real soon which CI

to go with, but all the info I find is too general. Does anyone know of some

good sites, or have done some reaserch and knows the pros and cons of these

CI's? Basically which one is better for an adult that has lost his hearing?

Thanks,

Doug

Doug,

Congratulations on your upcoming implant.

There are 3 major types of cochlear implant,

Advanced Bionics, Nucleus and Med El.

All 3 work so you really only need base your choice on which will

best fit your lifestyle.

Go to the 3 websites and look them all over.. I don't know if your

surgeon implants all 3 brands or not, but you can get the design

specifics by going to the websites which are as follows:

Nucleus:

www.cochlear.com

Advanced Bionics

www.bionicear.com

MedEl:

www.medel.com

If you have any specific questions about any of them, ask away and

I'm sure someone will have an answer to your question.

Please feel free to email me either on the forum or privately.

You may get a lot of conflicting information about the different

brands, but please choose the one you prefer and take all personal

information with a grain of salt..Bottom line is.. they all work and

you can't go wrong no matter which you choose.

Warm Regards,

Silly MI

Doug,

I was already leaning toward Advanced Bionics when I found this

website, but it really " tipped the scales " for me in my decision.

It has a lot of great technical information and some opinions, too.

The thing I liked best about it was that it compared all three

manufacturers side by side.

Everyone here will tell you that all the CI brands are good and you

will find success stories for all of them. Pick the one you like

best, the one you think will meet your needs and has the features

you want. Good luck to you as you begin your journey back to

hearing.

....I too found that site helpful. I felt the information

provided was straight-forward and concise. It isn't meant to say one

brand is preferred over another but attempts to summarize the results

of different testings in one place. I would not make a decision

based on this one website, but it does serve as a reference point to

be added to the many things I have found out about implants. I would

hope all of us take all information we find as one piece of a puzzle

in our search for the " truth " .
