Marci:

My first baby had cystic dysplasic kidneys (found by routine

ultrasound at 5 months). Her chance for survival was below 1

percent. The doctors told me to either have an abortion or have her

at 9 months and have her live only 2-10 minutes tops. They told me

there was nothing that I could do. I went to several doctors, each

telling me the same thing....there is nothing that can be done to

save her. I finally found a doctor who told me we could try and

deliver her at 27 1/2 weeks (at this stage the lungs may be big

enough in porportion to the body weight) and see if she had

sufficient lungs to keep her alive. I had no (zero) amniotic fluid

and the only way to deliver her safely was to have a c-section

(vertical incision). She weighted 2 pounds and 2 ounces and lived 7

hours and 17 minutes. We named her Hope and she was the most

beautiful baby. Her lungs were not developed and she could not

breath even with the machine (due to the fact that she could not

expell her carbon dioxide). Since I had a vertical (or classical )

incision in the uterus I have to have a c-section with all my

children. Hannah was delivered 2 weeks early by c-section...I have

to deliver early to help prevent uterine rupture. The day I

delivered Hannah (via scheduled c-section) I was having contractions

and during surgery my uterus was splitting from the previous c-

section....so my doctor wants to have this baby a week earlier to

help prevent that from happening again. My doctor tells me I am a

very high risk patient. I hope I did not go on to much for you. It

is a long story.

As for names we havent really discussed them. is getting

anxious for us to decide. Do you have any great boy names? We are

searching for that great name.(but I truly believe a baby grows into

their name no matter what it is...)
