Guest guest
My three and a half month old is going to have a CT scan of his skull, jaw and ear before they do the DOC Band. The technician told me they have to sedate my son and therefore no milk (breastmilk, formula) six hours before the scan. Juice and water are allowed but only up to 2 hours before the scan. I have the following questions: 1. I don't think that fasting is possible, especially for my son, he has to eat every 2 to 3 hours, and if he doesn't get his food, he is going to scream and it can get really ugly! 2. Is sedation bad for a young infant? I don't want him to get sedated. But it's difficult to make him sleep if we can't feed him before the scan. 3. If we make him very tired and he can sleep through the scan, does that mean he doesn't need sedation? How long would a scan like that take anyway? 4. Any suggestions for avoiding sedation or make him sleep through the process? 5. Can you offer juice to a 3-month-old who hasn't started solid? Thank you!
