Guest guest
Please do not go in with any expectations! That's what I did and I was pleasantly surprised! Please remember that everyone has different experiences. A. Guest guest
Minnie, you asked alot of good questions. No one had same CI hook up experience. I didn't had " mickey mouse " experience and I heard low pitches as well as high on first day. One thing I can tell you that you MOST likely will experience, you will have " very confused brain " for a short time, it could be few minutes or hours or days. How confused you will be, no one can say. Please for your sake, do not expect anything, let nature take it course. It will get better, one way or another. Your audiologist will be BEST person to advise what restriction you should look for. Lee
Guest guest
Minnie everyone's hookup day is different i was hooked up before i found this forum so i really had no idea what to expect but i was told so many times i would never really hear speech again that i really didn't expect to hear much since i was without any sound for a long time i was just thrilled i heard something and even that was confusing at first i didn't know if i was sensing something or vibrations or real sounds i think i heard all frequencies but to me it all sounded like garble mind you awesome garble just hearing this first time was great like julie said my hearing changed with time and new mappings don't expect anything ... it's only up from there after hookup i did notice that just hearing was at times exhausting i wanted to hear all .. everything ... but those first few weeks by midafternoon i felt really tired i guess i was my brain just trying to sort all these wonderful sounds just knowing this was normal and ok made me adjust but again with time i was no longer so tired other than this it's been an awesome journey susan
Guest guest
Hi Minnie, Sorry to have to say this but....my switch on was horrible!!!! I couldn't understand anything in my implanted ear and all I could hear was beeps, squeaks and hissy noise. Three years ago there wasn't as much information as to what could happen on hook-up day as there is now. There is a great range of possible experiences so no matter what happens just remember that it all gets better!!
