Guest guest
Robyn, I'm replying to your query from a week ago. I don't have first-hand knowledge of domestic adoption practices. I was hoping others would weigh in and maybe some did privately. One source that may help at some point is Through the Looking Glass, a non-profit in the Bay Area (where else) which works with and for parents with disabilities. lookingglass.org I knew one of the OT's there, a zillion years ago through disability conferences, wonderful person. Like in the LPA-community, adoption seems prevalent in the disability activist community (which is big in the Bay Area), so you may get some insights from them. Then today I tripped over this on CNN.com (which reminded me of your question), interesting. http://www.ireport.com/ir-topic-stories.jspa?topicId=432759 & hpt=Sbin Best wishes to both of you on your family expansion adventure. Does anyone have any advice or experiences on adopting average sized babies/toddlers in the US? Im just curious if an agency would overlook our disabilities or would they turn us down because of them? Would hate to go thru all the time/money to just be turned away and disappointed. Any experiences shared would be appreciated Love, Robyn
