a) how to dump when you are 6 months out

Eat an entire Snickers bar

guaranteed - 5 hours of hot chills, sweating, gas and long solitary sits in

the bathroom.

I don't eat snickers bars any more!

B) how to dump when you are two years out

one of my favourite things is shopping. Now at two years out I know I need a

decent sensible breakfast and a nice protein snack mid morning. Then I can

go shopping, have a pleasant lunch and shop some more.

last week I had my breakfast, my mid morning snack and went shopping - I had

a wonderful time. Lunchtime came and went and I just continued around the

mall, then when I got to a checkout I saw some licorice allsorts and I love

them! Well, I grabbed a bag, got in the car and started eating. Imagine my

surprise when my hand found the bag was empty!

Oh no I thought, I do feel a bit sick. Wish I'd had lunch.

I reached home just in time.

5 hours of dumping.

I can't eat licorice allsorts any more.

Guess I've learnt my lesson now.

How awful. Have you tried eating prunes everyday? I did not have severe constipation like you but still constipated. 2 prunes a day has cured me. Also increase water and walking. Both help.

Constipation is diet and water controlled usually.  You may not be drinking enough fluids.Waiting 2-3 weeks is nothing short of dangerous.  Have you tried a stool softener such as Docusate Sodium?  It doesn't really help an existing problem as much as it prevents future problems.  You may need to take that on a regular basis.

Candy... I do that when I don't take my Vit D.  Probably 95% of the US population is low in Vit D, probably 100% of the obese population is low in Vit D.  I'd take 10,000 IUs daily of dry D3 you find at Walgreens and then test and see what your levels are.  You are shooting for an absolute low of 60 but you really want to be 80-100 to prevent sugar cravings, cancers, and overall metabolic health.  I'm not a vitamin fan and I don't take what I am supposed to but Vit D is BIG BIG BIG on preventing cancers.  But studies show you need to be in the 80+ range for the big, end of life problems.  Sugar cravings are a key symptom in low Vit D levels. When I don't take my vits I start noticing that I eat candy, all kinds of candy and I'm not a huge fan of sweets typically.

Dumping, nooo... that's not dumping.  Dumping is when rich, fatty, or sugar foods are pushed into the colon quickly and the colon attempts to water down the carbs and fat by pulling all the fluids from your body to your small intesting (stomach cramps) and this causes blood sugar fluctuations (sweating, dizzy), and diarrhea (more stomach cramping).

According to a doctor on various boards he claims that benefiber usually takes a month to kick in, it's not like Metamucil, something I don't like for anyone to take after WLS.  It forms into a hard gel and can 'set' in your stomach.  Especially for banded people so they don't get stuck on the hard gel.  I'm drawing a blank, what is the stuff that used to be by RX and it's not anymore, I can picture it but can't think of the name of it.  White powder, mix it with water, dissolves completely, no flavor... someone help  please?  What is the name of that stuff?  That is something you can safely take daily but due to cost I'd try the docusate sodium first.

Try using Miralax everyday- has NO taste and can be mixed with any liquid. It is non habit forming and works great!

Jen♦, I am going through the exact same thing. I take stool softeners everyday along with a Dulcolax every 3rd day so I can go to the bathroom. I have suffered from some really bad constipation and now I have really bad hemorrhoids and fishers. I am 3 months out from surgery and I don't know when my bowels are suppose to start working on there own but for now I am stuck with taking medication in order to have a BM. I was told that Benefibre will only work if you get enough water in and I can't seem to get enough in and it turns to cement in my intestines just like oatmeal and any other high fiber foods because it takes the water out of your intestines in order for it to work. I used to go everyday and now it's a struggle every day, it's just very awful not going when you are used to going...

For me I find that my body just feels so much better if I have a BM everyday. So that is why Miralx is my answer to this issue, I was like some of you and I would go for 3 days and not have one. Once I found Miralax to solved all my problems. It is so easy and safe to use. I just mix it with my protein drink each morning. It is just part of my daily routine.

Take care everyone,

Suzanne

Hi,

At first I had problems getting in a lot of water also. I just started sipping water all day long. That helped some. I also found that walking helped me too with BM. And at first I used Miralax two times a day maybe for a couple of months. I used it in the morning and also in the afternoon. I have never used a stool softeners. After my BM's started getting easier and better I went back to using the Miralx once a day. But I still walk every morning and I know that it really helps me.

I hope that helps you,

Suzanne
