Guest guest
Just to update you all. had his post mastoiditis CT scan yesterday and the results showed he was all clear. So we are very relieved.Infection was all gone, no more fluid. The ear canal that was thought to be atretic due to a skin sac was removed in one of the microsurgeries to clear the infection and the scan and a check with the otoscope showed that the newly widened/ created canal had stayed open and the ear drum could still be viewed! There was no sign of a cholesteatoma not a type 1 branchial cyst as originally feared. So for now will be spared surgery until he has his ear reconstructed. They noticed in the scan that his ossicles were malformed. the incus and malleus were malformed and fused. And the stapes was absent. The facial nerve runs over the area where the stapes is meant to be so any implantation to fix this would need to be done without damaging the nerve. We were told it would be possible though and that it could be done at one of the stages when his ear reconstruction is done. His results will be presented at a hospital board meeting to confirm the diagnosis with other doctors on the panel. we will know in a months time.We were told that the chances of a false negative for the CT scan with dye contrast was very low. Would be interested to hear others experiences on this.LingMom to 22 months (Right microtia stenosis) and 5yrs --------------------------------------------Mobile Nos: New Zealand +64-21-1857834China +86-13671762629Singapore +65-91493968
