I am 5 days post op. Healing nicely no infections. Please help I don't want to remove something I am not supposed to and I wonder if the nurse may have been confused....it is on the outer part of my ear canal so when I put my finger up to the hole there in the ear I can feel it. Guest guest
Please call and ask again because I don't think you are supposed to remove it. My husband had the procedure over the summer and he didn't have to remove it. After time, the doctor took the rest out. Guest guest
My sons had to keep his in for nearly 3 weeks (his ear canal was reconstructed and widened).he had a second surgery last week in the other ear, ear canal left in tact this time and he has a rolled bandage filling his ear canal and still has that firmly in place. We meet the doc for a post-op visit tomorrow. i don;t think you should remove it if it is wedged in the canal, only the dr should be 'fiddling' in there. Guest guest
Agreed! Call again. I was told to leave mine in, but not to panic if it partly crumbled and began falling out. For me there was a second gauze plug even deeper than that one. Both plugs were intended to be removed by the doctor. Guest guest
Oh ok thank you. I noticed it was more like a silicone type material rather than a cottontype material. I will call again. Thank you for your response. CWD Post Op I just had a CWD surgery last Wednesday. There is like this padding like thing in the ear canal like the outside (almost like it is molded like an ear plug might fit). Guest guest
Ok thank you. That makes me feel better and makes more sense. It is so hard when you have not had this surgery or any for that matter to know what to do what not to do and what questions to ask post op. Thanks so much! * CWD Post Op > > > > I just had a CWD surgery last Wednesday. Guest guest
Oh ok. I wondered because it did not feel like a cotton type material. I am going to leave it alone and wait for the surgeon. I do not want an infection or to make things worse. Thank you. Does it hurt when theyremove the plugs? Should I take anything before going to my post op appt? -----Original Message----- Date: Tuesday, September 21, 2010 6:26:00 am cholesteatoma From: "
Guest guest
The removal of mine did not hurt, but tales from others seem to be mixed. I experienced great relief when the deep plug came out - though I was bit wobbly for a few minutes. I had Canal Wall Up surgeries - I'm not sure if that makes a difference. I did have trouble with my jaw being a little out of alignment when the deep plug was still in. Every once in a while, when chewing, it would pop back into place and the little sharp pain would make me gasp (not so pleasant when your mouth has food in it). I guess our jaws are shaped a bit differently, so I hope that you don't have to put up with that. It's not bad though ... just annoying. Matt moonshadow2447@... wrote: > > Oh ok. Guest guest
Thank you Dr. Arun Gupta, Oops thought I responded to this. The resident surgeon called me back and said that the packing I was calling about did not need to be removed it would disolve on its own so I am leaving it alone. My hearing keeps getting better as it disolves so that is good. I will try to keep my finger out of my ear. Be thankful I am not your patient you would probably tie my hands behind my back. Guest guest
I t means ur ear has been packed with ABGEL ( self dissolving material), not cotton. Abgel is even kept in middle ear to give initial support to new Membrane to prevent it subluxation and displacement. It is also used to support the cartilage etc placed in middle ear to complete the conduction chain in ear. Guest guest
Wow! That is actually quite interesting thank you for explaining that on here. That makes sense because it is internal that it would be better than regular packing. That had not been explained to me so thank you again.
