Hi Sheila-- I am so sorry that I took a while to respond to your

message. my history is very similar to yours. I am severely to

profoundly deaf due to maternal german measles. In January of 2002,

I suffered what was thought to be an infection or a virus in my left

ear that rendered my wearing the left hearing aid useless as I could

no longer tolerate the sounds coming from it especially the high

pitched sounds. Yikes. Also at this time I experienced tititinus in

that ear that absolutely drove me bananas. For 3 months I went to my

hearing aid audie who tried to adjust my hearing aid so I could wear

it comfortably but with no success. The ENT that I saw told me that

I was not ready for a CI but my audie was friends with a CI audie

said that I should look into the CI. So she called her and the rest

is history. Even before I met my CI audie for the evaluation, I was

put in contact with Alice who gave me her story and encouraged me to

look into CI's as I was really skeptical at that time. It took me

exactly 2 months from my eval to my surgery date for my first

implant and I have never looked back. Yes, I am a bilateral. I got

my 2nd one April of this year.

I am doing excellent for a prelingually deafened adult. Please feel

free to ask questions.
