Guest guest
Hi, Everyone, I unintentionally took the summer off, so it's been awhile since I've posted. (Stopped getting forum for vacation and forgot to reactivate!). Hi old friends, and welcome to all of you new posters. A little background for the newly implanted and hooked up: I've had my implant just short of 2 years now. It gives me lots of sound and I am glad I had the surgery done. I did Auditory/Verbal therapy for about a year - once a week, and now go intermittenly. It does certainly help, particularly if you need verbal therapy as well(which I don't). I do wear my hearing aid in the other ear, which gives me about 13% voice distinction. Without using my hearing aid I can't understand voice without lip reading with the CI alone. I have always used analogue aids. I am in the midst of trying the Diva digital (over the ear) and it is not doing the job for me. I'd tried Resound digitals before implantation, and those, too, did not give me the voice discrimination that my almost 10 year old programmable Phonic does. To Lenny - I sometimes hear the beeps that tell your batteries are about to die, and sometimes not. But I can tell you that if you are getting from Saturday until Wednesday, you are doing VERY well with battery usage! I only get about 3 days - and that is only about 36-40 hours (I don't wear it at night). I do have very high powered maps on my Nucleus Contour 24 - 3G. For those of you getting " Darth Vadar " or " Daffy Duck " sound - consider this. If you can understand what is being said - rejoice! The sound will get better. I never experienced that sound, although people did seem to have particularly high voices. I would take that, though, over not having discrimination without lip reading. I do seem to like sound in the higher frequencies much better than " bass " sounds, and I know that is unusual. Hmm - I think I've covered everything. I wish you all good luck with your continued use of your CI, and patience to all of you! I've lost mine several times over the last few years, and this list is wonderful in getting me back on track. Now if they could just get me past this " certain age " with less sweating (yes I am using the sweat jackets! LOL) I'd be in great shape! LOL Again - Hi, and welcome to all!
