Guest guest
: To my knowledge, there is no concrete info on the TMJ/plagio relationship out there. This applies to many of the other possible side affects of plagio as well. Many of the possible side effects are purely speculation made by medical professionals, based on the way the body works, and how changing the shape of a skull can cause it to function differently (, are you there? Is this correct? Please let us know if this is wrong!). The plagio "epidemic" is a relatively new thing (since the back to sleep campaign began), and so many of the children who have/had plagio are not yet old enough to do studies on, or, no one has done them (again, that I'm aware of). There is one article out there that did a study on plagio kids and learning difficulties, by I found that it wasn't very conclusive. I hope this made sense to you, and I hope that , or another one of our "pro's" out there will confirm or correct this post (thanx!!). I have an adult friend who had very severe TMJ (from what cause, I don't know). This friend deals with pain every day, which is much less than in the past because he was lucky enough to have a partially successful operation. But what he told me about the condition scared me because I had heard of a connection between TMJ and plagio. But I have never seen any articles or statistics about it. Does anyone know more? I was thinking that this information may help the drs see that helmets are not just for cosmetic reasons. Guest guest
I thought I might add something to this... Why is it so important for a house to be level? Without the proper foundation, cracks take place, and when it gets so bad contractors will come in and jack it up and fill it in. Guest guest
Just a thought, I am wondering if there have been studies done of kids at orphanages, since they are sometimes neglected in some areas of the world. I would think the prominence of plagio would be high, as many (sadly) are left in their cribs all day. Any thoughts? Guest guest
, Hi. Just about 2 or 3 weeks ago, a woman in my town stopped me to ask about Corey's band. I am slightly acquainted with her, as we live in a small community, and I know they adopted a son last year when he was 7. I gave her the short story and she called her son over to me and I didn't notice any asymmetry in his face, but he was uncomfortable and I didn't want to stare, but when he turned around I almost gasped, his head was so flattened on the back left. She and the pediatrician have discussed it and talked about whether or not it was due to the fat that he was abandoned and I told her it was probably due to the orphanage and lack of personnel to reposition him. He was born in Russia. Her ped says he is not cognitively affected and her dentist has found no problems with TMJ syndrom at this point. I have another friend whose daughter was adopted from a relatively well off Russian orphanage and there were only 3 women running the place, one to care for the children all day, one to cook and one to do laundry that day; they rotated duties every so often. I can only imagine what lesser equipped places would be like. I know some of you guys have heard this story before, at least parts of it, so to repeat myself! Guest guest
There have been a couple of women join the group, quite a while ago, who had adopted children from foreign countries. As I recall, one was from Russia, and one lady had one (maybe 2) from Viet Nam. Check the archives if you're interested in their stories. Guest guest
, Thanks for the info, very interesting. I haven't been able to find follow-up studies on children with untreated plagio, I would be interested to learn what they are dealing with as side effects to the problem. Any insight? It is so sad to think of all those babies not only dealing with plagio, but detachment disorder as well! ' Mom
