HI Dora,

After speaking with Tony at ASU I have decided not to get another

implant unless I lose almost all of my left ear hearing The benefits

with the residual I do have are: better appreciation of music, better

test scores with both ears over the implant ear alone, still being able

to wake up with a conventional clock radio, environmental awareness when

I'm not " plugged in " . While having 2 implants would give me better

localization skills and better comprehension in noise, I don't think

it's yet worth giving up what I have now. Who knows what the future may

hold?!

,

These are good reasons not to go bilateral. I would

not have gone bilateral if I had as much residual in

my unimplanted ear as you seem to have.

I hope you keep it.

Hi

Hey..you are getting the benefits of bilateral hearing with your REAL ear!!I

wouldn't mess with it either.I was stone deaf with both so had no way to go but

up!!..IFFFFF..you lose your

natural hearing you will then surely miss it and then you will want another CI!I

hope you never need it!!There's no guarantee that you would get any better

benefits in noise and localiization than you do now. There has been quite a

discussion on the York about Bilaterals..i will guess it continues this week!!

I gave the info about Callier..Email her and she will send a whole bunch

of info about the study!!

Love Dora

M-- It really depends on the individual's situation. Everyone is different. It

all depends on the testing , the doctor, and whether the insurance will approve

for the 2nd implant to be done.

Snoopy-- a bilateral user since 2003

HOW IS EVERYONE GETTING THEIR SECOND COCHLEAR IMPLANT?

M.
