Guest guest
Alison, Do you have support groups in the UK? I'm referring to groups similar to SHHH ( http://www.hearingloss.org<http://www.hearingloss.org/> ) because this is where you would be likely to find others with the implant. If not, you could talk to your CI Center to see if they could help you contact CI users from their center and get together to form a support group. You would need someone who is sharp in publicity and let them advertise in as many areas that are allowed, TV, news and even magazines. The best way to bring attention to the technology is to be vocal and advocate. I personally believe that this is why there is such growth in the states. Alice From: Alison Patuck<mailto:alison7582@...> I hardly see anyone who has a CI 'in the wild' - am from the UK......I see a lot of HA people........ Guest guest
Alice, Thanks for your e-mail; yes there is a support group, which was formed by 2 audiologists in Bristol - here I had it done, there are 13 or 16 implant centres throughout the UK - prob in the States there are more..........I meant I've never 'bumped' or someone with a CI in the street.......that is why I have joined these groups - even started a new group - CI users group - specifically for UK residents, becuase I feel there is so little support compared to your country in means of first hand expereinces......... Thanks again Alison A ADAMS <justagram14@...> wrote: Alison, Do you have support groups in the UK? Guest guest
Alison, That's great to read. I know you must feel like a pioneer but you are a mighty one. I saw your post on Problem CI too and wanted to thank you for helping the list member there. It's so nice to have you here. If it helps any, I don't see many people with a CI either. Once in a while, I'll see someone in a restaurant or in a store but not often at all.
