Guest guest
I'll sure share my 2 cents! This has been quite annoying! Thanks for that tip, . Kay Re: Trimming posts Oh good- thanks!! I did already complain- there was a spot to click on the right hand side of our messages here if you receive them individually the " new " way. Something about giving your feedback... I let them know what I thought!! Guest guest
Am I the only one who likes the new set up? I am on digest for quite a few of my groups, especially the Freecycle ones. If you were on digest before, you had to scroll all the way down to find the message that you wanted to read, now you just click on it, it is making things a bit easier for me. -- Sara Proud Mama to Colin 12/07/99 Jack 8/07/02 --------- Trimming posts Hi - this just came through on another list. I think we should all complain to but in the meantime try this: For those of you who do not like the current changes to the following appears to be the answer Go to the homepage of each of your groups. Click on Edit membership. (Its up the top where your email address is) Then scroll all the way down and check TRADITIONAL. Voila! Everything will go back to normal. I tried it. It does work. Please pass the solution around. I have just changed but haven't received any messages yet to know if it works! Guest guest
Thanks, Nikki, I'm giving it a try, though I generally wind up erasing all and then those reading may not be able to follow along.. I haven't had dial-up since the 90's, but I do recall what a pain it was and will try hard to remember to cut the message down.. Sheena Everyone is raving about the all-new beta. Guest guest
Hi Jill, I don't know about others but the new format of isn't so good for my webmail. When I'm at home, I can just select the bit I want to reply to and it's as easy as that but with the new formatting on webmail I can't edit the previous post without first making the whole thing plain text. I agree that long quotes are tiresome and I will make a bigger effort to trim and tidy. Some groups are much more tolerant to this especially when it's mostly top posting I did think this was one of the more top posting-quote tolerance groups. Guest guest
I, and some other member, asked earlier (much earlier) how to do this. I can do it in my emails from friends, but it won't allow me to with group emails. I get these little boxes and cross-hairs. Guest guest
From Jim... .....I can just select the bit I want to reply to and it's as easy as that but with the new formatting on webmail I can't edit the previous post without first making the whole thing plain text. I agree that long quotes are tiresome.... From me.... While we're at it.... I've been plucking up courage to put in a plea for uniformity. There are so many different posts in so many forms that, frankly, the old brain gets lost from time to time. I've spotted:- 1. Those who delete <all> the previous post and leave us guessing as to what point is being answered. 2. Those who leave the original in its entirity and " answer " above it so that we read the answer, then go to the question below to see what was asked. 3. Those who, (easiest for me to follow) take a point, answer it, leave a line and move on. There may even be others I've forgotten, but these spring to mind, second to the number of, to my mind, wasted posts while person A asks person B where they live and then a second one while person B posts an answer. We are all aware of the pitfalls of giving full name, address, phone No. etc but why not Scotland, Nn. FL, Southern WI or whatever the abreviation is? Nn. England. And why bother reading below the poster's sig? I don't know about others but the new format of isn't so good for my webmail. When I'm at home, and I will make a bigger effort to trim and tidy. Guest guest
I'm one of the people who tends to clip the post to a few sentences unless it was a really short post and then answer above...since I guess I assume (that usually gets one in trouble doesn't it...lol) that if you have been following a thread that the subject of the post keys you into what I am answering. I try if the subject goes way off in left field to change the subject line to indicate the new direction. Occasionally, if it is a post that requires a point by point discussion, I will use the method of quoting each question with the answers typed in between and I always try to highlight my answer by putting some kind of mark before it like *** or some other device to show that it is different from the quoted text of the previous post. Occasionally when people use this method and do not space or use such a device to denote what the new text is...it can be a bit difficult to read the post. Hopefully, I do what is necessary for folks to get the most out of my posts. Guest guest
I occasionally have the same problem depending upon the format that the email was sent in...in those cases, I typically copy and paste what I want to reply to into a completely new email and go from there. A few more clicks but not as bad as having to go to the website. On 9/26/07, Jan P. <jpos123@...> wrote: > > I, and some other member, asked earlier (much earlier) how to do this. Guest guest
Hi Jan, me too, but if you click on the button, if you have one, that says 'plain text' wherever that might be for you it gets rid of that boxy thing. I guess that's one of the things that I like about this group though, how there's no griping, not that I'm saying this is griping, just that it's the closest thing to it, lol, oh dear, what's that about foot 'n mouth disease, so the difference became apparent. Guest guest
I don't prefer where they leave lines then put an answer, leave some more and post another answer. If they answer above the question or orig post then someone who is doing a search won't see it looking like every post in that thread is the same. I hope you can follow that. In other words they will see the most recent post showing. Gosh, I still don't know if that is clear. *rolls eyes* jan Kane <brainnake@...> wrote: From Jim... .....I can just select the bit I want to reply to and it's as easy as that but with the new formatting on webmail I can't edit the previous post without first making the whole thing plain text.
