I prefer male cats to females too. My cat Patches who had a lot of Siamese blood was a howler and she even climbed the living room drapes when she went in to heat. We had to have her spayed right away. She always seemed to be emotioanlly distraught. and two other neutered males I had Winston and Friskie were so much easier to get along with. Patches was always moody. Velvet was too but not like Patches. Patches lived to be 18, had to have her teethe cleaned, had abcesses and had to have teethe pulled. (that is enough to be grumpy about) No Adelle just seems depressed all the time. She likes to go out and lie in the sun and I let her go. She either gets on privacy fence and lounges on it or the plant gazebo. has no interest whatsoever in outside. I lived in the country when I had Winston and Friskie and they and and Patches and Sissy (my mother's cat) were in and out all the time. There

were so many people in and out there it was hard to make inside rule that cats didn't want to abide by. Catmama Robin <robinreed@...> wrote: I would suggest getting one as a kitten, male would be my choice, easier to get fixed and never howl like the females when in heat, but maybe you would have better luck than me with a female. Male is just my personal preference and has worked for me. Out of all the cats I had, I only let 1 roam around outside with me, and that was , because he wouldn't leave my side, and when I went in he went in. As for the rest of my cats, the current 'Orange Cat' as I call him, if you recall, he was a stray outside cat to begin with. He is the only cat I have that will sit by the door waiting for someone to open it so he can dart out. If we are on the patio, I will let him lay on it awhile before I put him back inside, so I guess I am part to blame for his continued disobedience. But when he runs out the front

door, or garage door, I send my daughter after him. He runs too fast for me (he runs 10 ft, then stops, when I move, he runs 10 more feet, and stops, ect, like it's a game). I'm afraid he would definitely get hit by a car if I left him out, so the patio is the only outdoor time he gets away with. I have trained him, that he can play on the concrete patio, but if he goes off the edge into the grass more than 1x, he gets thrown back into the house. Then he sits at the patio doors howling over & over. You can hear him outside w/ the doors closed! He is just spoiled. All I notice he wants to do is roll around on the concrete, and watch a few birds. He runs to catch them, but then they always fly away before he can get them. But mostly the rolling is what he likes to do. So, as I said, since he was already an outside cat, he is the hardest to keep inside. The rest of

my cats, and even the outside kittens I brought home, stay inside. Sometimes they will go to the door when it is left open for carrying groceries in the house, but we yell their names, and then they stop, or even turn around and run back in the house. Orange Cat is the only exception. So if you do get a kitten, which is my suggestion, whether inside or outside, if you raise it inside and punish it if it goes near an open door (yell at it or squit it w/ water are my punishments) it should continue to want to stay inside. After all cats are curious, and will watch outside the windows at all the creatures outside...but ultimately they are afraid of what they don't know. And they don't know what's outside really. Zeke, my fat boy cat....will run for the door if you carry him outside and put him on the ground. Well that is about all I can tell you..oh yeah...also make sure to buy one of

those cardboard cat scratchers I see at Target & Wal-Mart. I had a carpet covered cat tower that none of my cats liked to scratch, instead they loved my leather furniture :( But I bought one of those, and several since, because they go to town on it. Especially when you rub the catnip into the grooves, they will scratch it, lick it, sleep on it, like they are stoned out of their minds! It's hilarious! But will definitely save your furniture! Good Luck with the kitten search!>
