Guest guest
I have added this to the FAQ I am creating: "Slippage or prolapse is when the stomach slides up through the band, making the pouch bigger. If this happens the band usually becomes too tight, and patients experience symptoms of reflux (heartburn) as well as nausea and vomiting. This is because the amount of stomach being “squeezed” by the band is increased, thereby obstructing the Band. " Things that cause a slippage are if the band is not placed in the right position or is not stitched into place correctly. Patients can also cause slippage by overeating and excessive vomiting. Guest guest
Hi Group, sad to say I have issues with my band. My esophaugus has expanded around my band and I might have a hernia on top of that. I've lost 40 pounds on this band and I had it for a year. My Md is suggesting the sleeve. I had ups and downs on the band and don't want to lose it. I prefer to lose the weight gradually and still have control on my participation in my weight loss. Right now i have some restrictions and making sure I don't gain any weight back. I am going to the gym and keeping a close eye on what I eat, till I make up my mind on what my next step will be. > > Thanks to all for the responses. > > I had been able to eat more than I should for quite a while (I know that just because you can doesn't mean you should.) One day I ate some ribs and got stuck. Could barely drink much less eat. I went for an unfill and since we were leaving for vacation the next day the dr just told me to come back when I could. After that, I could eat much more than I am supposed to. When I went back to him, he did a barium swallow and found the slip. He did let out everything for a while and checked again and the slip was still there. He did a very small fill but was afraid to do very much because of the slippage. I was told that the main cause of slippage is eating too much at a time. He said the only way to fix it was to replace the band. I have been living with it for about 9 months. Sometimes I have a lot of restriction but other times I can eat a lot. (Never as much as before surgery.) > > Thanks Sandy for the encourgement. I have the report from the swallaw and will sent it to Dr Spivak. I also have a great deal of respect for him. > > I'll let everyone know what happens. >
