Guest guest
Today I reached another milestone... 150lbs lost since my MGB on November 04 last year. Since Feb 12, 2004 when I started my preop diet, I have now lost 229 lbs and I am now officially less than half the person I was. I can't wait to reach my goal so I can get some of this excess skin off! I exercise 5 to 7 days a week and try and stay away from too many carbs which stop my weight loss. I can eat everything except ice cream (thank God!)and have to struggle in the evenings sometime with cravings as I did in the past. I have never had any dumping. The good news is that on my " bad " days I still don't gain weight because my exercise regimen combined with my lessened absorption keep me from gaining weight. I am very serious about reaching my goal weight before the end of the year so I can have some PS early in the New Year. I am having some trouble keeping my iron up, my latest tests show I am still mildly anemic but at least I am not getting worse. I am still losing more hair than I would like. I use Nioxin to help with new growth. Oh yeah, just about forgot...my cancer tests came back great! I had 42 radiation treatments at the Mayo Clinic last April/May and my first post-radiation test results came back last week with stellar results. I have so much energy! I am scheduled for 2 trips to the gym today. I go each morning and then some days I go again with my sister or son. I take Whey protein, Creatine, Glucosamine, Iron, Biotin, Centrum Peformance and Metamucil each day. Good luck to you all, Markham Lee 455, 376, 226, 200 (Highest, preop, current, goal) Reborn Nov 04, 2004, High Point NC, Dr. Tom Walsh

Guest guest
Thanks very much for your info. I am anxious to get ps because I have a hernia which needs to be fixed and was planning to do it at the same time. Maybe I will just have the hernia fixed and do the skin later. Thanks for the advice. What kind of iron supplements are you taking for your anemia? best regards, Markham NCGorgeous1963@... wrote: 10/6/2005, markham1951@... writes: << I am very serious about reaching my goal weight before the end of the year so I can have some PS early in the New Year. I read your post and although you didn't ask for any feedback, may I please just offer you some insight on my own case? I am still in the weight loss process, another 25 +/- lbs to go, and had three sets of PS procedures - which I do not regret at all. BUT, if I could have done it again, I would have not been so eager and would have waited until my wgt was all gone, AND waited another 6-12 mos on top of that so your skin can adjust accordingly. Even though my wgt stabilized for nearly 8 mos prior to surgery, I wish I had the TT procedure last instead of first (I knew my PSurgeries would take the better part of 1 full year to complete). My tummy tuck of Dec 2004 was fabulous. By May 2005 it needed another small tuck, and yet again this past August...LOL. The surgeon told me to stop growing skin (kidding). It's no surprise that we lose a majority of our elasticity. Perhaps more importantly than waiting for final weight loss and stability is the anemia thingy. I became severely anemic after my first plastic surgery and needed an iron infusion. It was 5 months of lethargy H*ll. So I called our good Dr. Rutledge and chatted awhile regarding iron supplements, etc. His advice to me was that ALL plastic surgery tends to trigger anemia so that is why he suggests waiting 1-2 full years after all our wgt is gone and stabilized before nipping and tucking. A good patient would heed the advice, but due to a load of personal circumstances, I had no choice but to take this year to finish what I started and complete my surgeries. As I said, I have no regrets and would do it all again - but my unsolicited advice to you would be to please be careful and work closely with physicians, PCP and Hematologist if needed, to get your iron under control before engaging in more surgery. I would have chimed in and said to try increasing your dietary intake of protein for hair growth (I am a barber-stylist student right now), but since you have/had additional health issues, it appears that may not be the best response. Super congrats on overcoming your cancer battle! (On a side note, my 15 yr old kitty went thru 1 yr of IV chemo and lost all his belly fur and whiskers. It all grew back nicely when treatments stopped this past January, but his whiskers are only half the length they were and they are curly instead of straight! >^..^< ) Again, congrats and good luck with the NEW YOU!
