Guest guest
nne, A while ago there was a person who posted about bad experiences. This person had an awful CI surgeon who butchered the surgery and the Audiologist had the gall to blame the poor person for not doing well with the CI when it was the surgeon's fault. If I recall correctly...and there is someone else who had numerous CI surgeries with no or little success. Just had a new CI put in and seems like it is starting to work now. There was another person who had the CI surgery but there were problems a few weeks after activation and now that person has bilateral implants. I agree it is not a good idea to post their names. That is all I can think of now. A.
Guest guest
julianne i have had two CI implants ... bilateral i am thrilled with the outcome and it keeps getting better but i also have had to deal with " issues " side effects of this surgery i have had facial twitching and still do to a degree i am dealing with intermittent dizziness/balance issues sometimes i get " hit " with this room spinning, nauseous, vomiting episodes but as time goes on these problems become less and less knowing and having gone through all i did i can honestly say i would do it all over again in a heart beat going from zero sounds to a world of so many many sounds has been awesome i will never again take this " hearing " for granted each day i still hear something new be it a beep or a word and i am still thrilled to death i have not focused on the " bad " or the down side of this surgery i can't there is just way too much good about wearing a CI susan
Guest guest
Thank you ... I am not just looking for the bad sides - I want to hear the good sides too... this is important. Names are irrelevant. I choose this site as I was reassure it was fair. Other sites you mention are very one-sided... not wholly what we need. But it just came to my attention today that some of mails are being edited/disapproved. Even among the archives! Not very trustworthy for me to see as a researcher. Hmmm? It would make me, and others, question this listserv and in particular my research if I said it came from this listserv! I've printed off mails that can no longer be found or has been altered in the archives. So I can't use it now... Do you understand my dilemma? Rgds, nne failed ci's/nne Hi nne, For the short time you've been with us, I'm not surprised you've not seen any real bad or nasty experiences with the ci. The people on here represent only a very small # of actual ci users as I think I mentioned once before and we have indeed had some people who have had failed ci's or a bad experience. Some of those people no longer post on and we can't give their names without their permission either<smiles> and yes, people do have the right to know of failures, bad experiences, etc. Much of this information can be found simply by searching the web or writing to the individual companies. I always tell people that there are no guarantees when being implanted and no one can compare their experience to another persons as everyone is totally different. We've had things from long term facial paralysis to failed ci's to someone even being implanted with the wrong ci along with a variety of other issues. Luckily these problems are few and far between on here and some of the problems people have are resolved by a visit to their audi. Good luck with your research and please don't hesitate to ask any questions either here on the forum or privately. Hugs silly MI
Guest guest
I am aware of these problems A. I've met similar here. That's not the issue here. Where are these postings? Have they have been deleted from archives? Why? They are not protecting anyone by doing that - just denying information. If I am a parent or a would be candidate I would like to know these things... I can understand not approving messages but editing deleting archived messages is not on. It damages the credibility of the listserv. You are correct no names will be used in any of the research. The majority of people posting here do so under pseudonyms/panhandles anyway. We wouldn't even use these to respect privacy.
