Guest guest
It had been almost 10 yrs since I smoked when I got banded. Then I started craving them occasionally. I didn't give in to the craving, but I did some asking around and found out WHY! When you start breaking down fat cells...all the toxins that have been stored in them for YEARS start seeping into our blood streams...soooo...nicotine that had been in those fat cells for years was leaking into my system and making my body "think" I had had a smoke! It is horrible for your esophagus to have to deal with when it is already stressed, and let's face it, we ALL occasionally overeat, pb, etc to cause extra stress to our esophagusi...so...best to leave it alone if you can when it comes to smoking!BIG HUGS, AND GOD'S BLESSINGSDawnita MayLowpass, Oregon10/05/05 dob 209/135/120 5ft 3inches See Mylatest photos at: http://dawnita1961.myphotoalbum.com/
Guest guest
Dawnita3@ I can add something to that, my friend dragged me to a WLS seminar for a Bariatic surgeon over in Pensacola, FL near where we live. What he said about smoking is this, that if you go back after surgery, I believe he meant gastric by pass and banding, that it will cause a ulcer and other complications. I had already quit and so glad I did, but also that is one of the reasons Dr A is getting me because of all the weight gain. But this Doctor also said to a room of about 100 people, and I quote " if you are smoking now, and are only going to quit for the surgery, stand up and walk out of the room, and he also said, I have a nose for ciggy's even if you ride in the car with someone who smokes coming to an appointment with me, I will cancel all procedures with you....period " That is a doctor who is not playing, I'd been quit for about 4 months then and I felt quilty for even missing ciggy's.
