Guest guest
Just to let you all know – is a very nice and cute gal – although……she was complaining about being hungry all the time – we will need to keep her encouraged about not eating what she isn’t suppose to – right Mar? Mine went very well also – but they had to fix a Hiatus Herniation before they could start the banding – pretty interesting. I loved the staff and will recommend them any anyone and everyone. – you be a good little girl – I’m watching you!!!! Guest guest
Hey , Congratulations on your surgery!!! I am so happy for you, and I know you'll be a great bandster!! Just keep taking it one day at a time, remember to give yourself time to get used to the band. The first few weeks are pretty tough but if you just keep your mind on the prize you'll do fine. Take care of yourself and best of luck to you. >> Hi Everyone, I am back and i feel wonderful. Guest guest
Hey .... Geez the part about always being hungry sounds like me, and that has not changed at all! Guest guest
Hi Everyone, it is Sunday, May 14th and Mother's Day ...Happy Mother's Day to all the moms. I got back last night around 1 am from Mexicali and wanted to share my experience with all of you. First of all, I was scared to find a little worn down hospital in the middle of somewhere in Mexico, I was very wrong. We stayed one night in Sand Diego and was picked up by Nina at the Hotel at 9 am the following morning, picked up a couple of more people and headed down to Mexicali (about 2 1/2 hour drive), all I could think of at this time was that I was hungry as I had been fasting since 10 pm the night before. Nina was a true pleasure, super nice lady. We got to Mexicali about around 1 and went to the hospital, let me tell you about the hospital, it is small, but everything is new, and very pretty not to mention very complete as far as my non-medical eye could tell. I was placed in a room with a couch for my husband who came with me. The nurses (I had a few but comes to mind because he was sooooo nice) kept checking on me to make sure I was comfortable. The room is small, but fully equipped with a bathroom, closet and TV with channels in English, everything is new and extremely clean (they clean the rooms 3 times a day, I know this because one of the ladies that cleans told me). Everything is great at this point except I have such a terrible headache from not eating and not having my cup of coffee that I want to go to the operating room and be put under just so the pain can go away. I'm taken to the operating roomI guess around 7 or so...and here is where it gets ugly, and I know this is not the case for everyone, I wake up in the recovery area and I'm out of it but I feel this sharp and intense pain in my left shoulder, I kid you not, I felt like crying from the pain. Anyway, that was the worst of my experience, I have had excruiciating pain in my left shoulder which to date has not gone away. I was given something to sleep that night but the pain kept waking me up. The pain was a little better the next morning, but it has not gone away. I am pretty sore all over, especially my tummy and my back (for some reason)and of course, " the shoulder pain " , if this horrible pain in my shoulder would go away I would say I feel pretty well. Honestly, I didn't expect the surgery to be as painful afterward as it was. For a moment, my thougts were...what have I done? I should not have done this. Now, 3 days later, my feeling is, I hope this works because if it doesn't it really was a real pain to go through. I've been on clear liquids since the surgery and haven't been too hungry, today I've been around food more and the cravings are starting to kick in. I know not everyone gets the shoulder pain and certainly not everyone gets it as bad as I got it, Barb who had surgery the same day I did, had it some but not as bad as I did, and Vicky, didn't seem to have the shoulder pain at all. As a final note, everyone was great, the hospital was small, but very modern and very clean, the treatment we got was outstanding and Yolanda, Nina and Dr. Aceves were awesome as well, even my husband got some medical treatment (his back gave out on him and he was in a lot of pain). I expected I would've lost at least 6 - 8 lbs from being with hardly any food for 5 days, but the scale hasn't moved much, I am, though, still very swollen, so that might have something to do with it. So for those of you considering the surgery, this is how it went for me. Good luck on your decision. For those of you that have already gone through it, two questions, any suggestions for the shoulder pain (my husband bought gas x, will that work?) and also, during the first two weeks, would it be ok to drink a small cup of skim milk with a tiny bit of coffee in it? Guest guest
Hi Rosie!! I just got back today. I hear you on the shoulder pain. I've discovered that the more I am up and walking (like I'm supposed to be doing) the worse it is. I'm taking my Tylenol like clockwork but the left shoulder pain is still here. I hope it goes away in the next couple of days like everyone says it will. Hope your flight home was okay. You sure had a long way to go. I was able to fly standby on the same flight as Vickie. We didn't have seats together but it was the same one. When I got off that flight, I went straight over to the AK airline gate and asked if they had anything earlier (as I had a 6 hour layover coming up). They hurried me onto the flight that was boarding it's last couple of people so I got to come home many hours earlier than I had planned. And my Mom was in Anchorage waiting for me. We spent the night there so I didn't have to drive home after all this flying. I drove home today and it was much nicer. Back to the shoulder pain...the Dr. told me to lay on my left side and it really does help Rosie! I've tried the Gas X but it doesn't seem to do much at all. I'm very happy that I did this. The broth and liquids are giving me some intermittent diarrhea that I'm not very fond of but it's tolerable. I'm having the same problems with the hunger thing. I'm not starving but I have a hard time being around yummy foods. I've already found that I'm noticing food commercials and ads a LOT more than I did before. WOW!! Well, I'm going to go lay down (on my left side) so I'll catch up with you later. VICKIE--Hope you made it home and are feeling good. Sorry I rushed off after our flight to Seattle but they hurried me onto the next plane. Barb
Guest guest
Hello Rosie and I'm sorry to hear that you are in so much pain. I didn't have alot of shoulder pain. I did take Gas X, used the stick on Theraheat patches or a heating pad. I was uncomfortable on the plane trip home and took Tylenol and gas X. The gas will go away the more you are up and around. I felt alot of relief after my first real bowel movement. I hope this helps and good luck. Regina > > Hi Everyone, it is Sunday, May 14th and Mother's Day ...Happy > Mother's Day to all the moms. Guest guest
Hey Barb...so you got it too? Girl...its been so bad I woke up at 2 am in tears and had my husband drive me to the ER where I was until noon today. It was such a horrible experience at the hospital here in Miami, I was mentioning to my husband what a difference from the way we were treated in Mexicali. I tried calling the doctor last night about the pain but couldn't get him so I became my normal paranoid self and freaked out. They xrayd my chest, my tummy and did an ultrasound of my tummy, as well as blood work and EKG, turns out its GAS...whatta you know???? were able to get a hold of from the hospital to talk to the doctor in the ER (poor guy it was 5 am Mexico time) and he assured the ER doctor that it was perfectly normal. Anyway, we were there for 8 hours for nothing but at least I'm sure I'm not having something different than anyone else, (I was already swearing I had a blood clot that had traveled up...LOL) told me about the GAS X (but you're right, it doesn't help) and sleeping on the left side (I'm going to start tonight for sure), now at least I'm prepared to deal with it for the next two weeks (he said it could take as long as that). I'm so glad you found a way to get home sooner, I was really thinking of you and your long wait at the airport after surgery...so glad it worked out. I also have diarreah (if you can call it that since its more like peeing from the wrong side) but its better today. They gave me a prescription for percoset at the ER for the pain which will be good, at least will help me sleep. Anyway, last night I was really regretting my decision to have the surgery, now I feel better about it again...can't wait to start eating solids though...this liquid diet sucks...bought the isopore and it tastes crappy but its beareable. I also bought liquid vitamins at GNC just in case. Not sure if you will be able to find this in Alaska, but there's an herb called " Anis " which claims to get rid of gas, so my mom has been boiling it in water for me and giving it to me as a tea, it worked really well for me when I had gas pain after my son's c-section, its an old cuban tradition, but I did feel my tummy begin to make all kinds of noises after taking it, so it does work somewhat at least. We can find it here at any grocery store in the spice or herbs section, might want to give that a try, it tastes good too...and its a nice warm drink..(I'm sick of apple juice)....anyway...Vickie...how are you doing girl? You seemed the one least in pain...keep us up to date with your progress. By the way...6 days on liquids and have not lost any weight...is that crazy? I'm bummed about that... >From: " karma_alaska " <karma_alaska@...> >Reply- > >Subject: Re: BACK FROM MEXICALI >Date: Sun, 14 May 2006 23:21:12 -0000 > >Hi Rosie!! I just got back today.
