Hi All,

Wanted to share this information with you all on bilateral implants.

Yesterday I saw my CI surgeon, Dr. Haynes at Vanderbilt in

Nashville for my 6 month appt. We were discussing bilateral implants

and what is being done for all who wish to have this procedure. He

told me the Board of Implant Surgeons in the USA will be meeting this

weekend in Denver, CO with insurance company representatives and the

three implant companies to discuss dual packaging and surgery as an

option for bilateral surgery. Vanderbilt was one of six CI hospitals

chosen to do trials on bilateral implants a couple of years ago and

found great success with the procedure (both ears at the same time)

and Dr. Haynes is working so very hard to see this put into effect.

I hope this conference he's attending will be well met with insurance

companies for bilateral implantation. I'm sure it will be a long way

down the road for bilateral surgery, but it's great to know that

surgeons are trying to make this possible for all who wish to have

dual hearing. Hopefully, we'll see news on what is happening with

this conference and decisions made by all groups (insurance, implant

companies and surgeons) to come to an agreement it would be benefical

for all who are seeking hearing again bilaterally.

Bob, maybe you'll see some information come through your sources in

the following weeks and months.

Dixie
