Guest guest
I am scheduled for my first fill on December 23rd - yes, I am excited - it will give me the restriction that I have been missing since my surgery (Nov 10th) so...once you get a fill, what happens, lets say they put in 1cc of saline - what happens? does it just stay in there? (the saline) or does it evaporate eventually? What about people who have had 5 and 6 fills?? Obviously if the band only holds 4cc's total - then something must happen to the saline eventually - answers please... Thanks bunches, Lori 249/236/
Guest guest
Lori, Nina can correct me if I am wrong but I will try to answer your questions. When you have a fill, the amount of saline injected will be determined by how much restriction you need or can tolerate at the time. If you are going back to Dr. Aceves, then, he will do the flouro with the barium swallow and watch the amount of liquid that passes through the band comfortably. Some people say he is too conservative but remember, HE is the expert! He will put in what he feels is best for your comfort and your success. He will remind you that the band is simply the tool and that you cannot rely on a fill to help you reach your goal...YOU still have to work with your band and be willing to CHANGE your eating habits. Anyway, the saline that is put in stays in the band. I have a 4cc band with 1.7 ccs of saline in it right now. I received 1.3 ccs my first fill, 1.5 my second fill but then had to have all of it removed for about 6 weeks. I just had my 3rd fill this weekend and everything is perfect. As far as the total amount my band holds, I will NEVER need 4 ccs of saline! I am only 9 pounds away from my goal so I imagine that I will reach it with the 1.7 I have in right now. Good luck and keep thinking positively! A positive attitude will make all of this much easier, I promise! Plus, how can losing weight, no matter how slowly it may be, be negative??? Life is GREAT!
