Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Discovered by chiropractor Goodheart in 1964 and developed by him and

his student and colleague Alan Beardall in the 1970s, clinical kinesiology

(CK) tests the body's energetic feedback system and rechannels it for

healing. Chiropractor Levy and Lehr, one of her patients, describe it in

detail. Although a recent discovery, CK draws heavily on acupuncture and

subcontinental Indian medicine and is thereby related to centuries-old

traditions. It claims to identify changes in the body before they appear

physically, and via both text and diagrams, Levy and Lehr obligingly present

the tests used to ascertain such changes. Treatments are designed to reverse

or mitigate the changes and consist primarily of improving nutrition,

identifying problems arising from food allergies, supporting the immune

system, eliminating antibiotics and other powerful drugs, avoiding

unnecessary surgery, and staying away from magnetic fields. Beatty

Expected More, February 25, 2002

Reviewer: Blair Svihra from Forked River, NJ United States

The book did cover Clinical Kinesiology and related areas, but not at the

depth that I had expected based on the other reviews of the book. The

authors presented " real " examples, but failed to follow up with corrective

solutions for the " lay person " . Most of the solutions were " your muscle

tested weak, see a professional for help " . I didn't expect the level of

detail that is contained in the six Beardall books, but some corrective

examples (like in the Touch For Health books) would have been appropriate.

Enough said, it was interesting reading.

Awesome! Great for any health professional, May 26, 2000

Reviewer: J.P. Autotte, D.C. (see more about me) from Livermore, CA

I found this book to be very insightful and detailed. It is easy enough for

laymen as well as the professional. I got a hold of this book after training

in Applied Kinesiology (AK). After a long hard look it appears that this

book is the only Clinical Kinesiology book in print. All others appear to be

out of print. I would enjoy more published work based on the late Alan

Beardall, D.C.. Also, I'd like to comment on the great section in the book

on sub-clinical Candidiasis.

Truely a great book (especially for the cost).

Overall good book., January 27, 2000

Reviewer: Ard (see more about me)

This is a very well written and explained book. It is worth buying. It is

well documented, scientific and no theological junk of the author is thrown

in like so many other dissapointing books. However, it does take an

investment in time and can be difficult for those who are not advanced

readers. If you are just starting, start with " Your Body Doesn't Lie " .

Another great book, not so in depth and smaller but easier to read.

Very interesting subject matter, October 7, 1998

Reviewer: A reader from Canada

Having had some personal experience with clinical kinesiology I find it

quite fascinating. Strange as it all sounds it really works! And it's a

positive alternative to traditional medicine.

Editorial Reviews

Book Description

A practical and reliable diagnostic tool that has emerged over the past

twenty-five years, kinesiology is the study of the mechanics of bodily

motion, especially muscle movements and their relationship to our body

systems. Viewing the body as a balanced triad of structure, chemistry, and

mentality, applied kinesiology gauges muscle response to pinpoint underlying

physical problems. Within 30 minutes, a competent kinesiologist can evaluate

bodily functions and provide a readout on the workings of the glands,

organs, lymphatic system, circulatory and nervous systems, circulation, and

muscle-bone structure.

Applied Kinesiology demonstrates how this technique can be of practical use

for everyone.

About the Author

A veteran investigative journalist and the author of 13 books on a variety

of subjects, Tom Valentine describes himself as a " hands-on " researcher who

begins with skepticism rather than faith. He has published his own newspaper

and magazines, and has been a syndicated health and nutrition columnist.

Carole Valentine's interest in health-related subjects began in the late

1960s when her son was seriously ill.

Diagnosis of the human body., May 22, 2000

Reviewer: amanda boss (see more about me) from sydney, australia

I found yhis book very informative, it gives interesting accounts on every

part of the body by recognising responses in the muscles. It gives plain

explanations and easy guidedlines to follow, this would assist a student to

be able to recognise step by step and help them to recieve messages about

healthy or unhealthy parts of the body.' It would also help them to form an

opinion as how to help the patient and follow thru with medication in erbel

therepies and also make the patient aware of the bodies functions. This book

has been thouroughly written with thought, and easy to read and understand

without getting very technical.

An Important Work By An Early Leader In Kinesiology, May 28, 2000

Reviewer: Bruce Boatner (see more about me) from San Diego, CA.

From Goodheart's pioneering work in the 1970's has evolved Applied,

Clinical and Behavioral Kinesiology. The author of this book was a leader in

the field of Behavioral Kinesiology (which was also the original title,

published in 1979).

This book is important because Dr. Diamond's work has subsequently evolved

into other areas of research and has frequently been referenced in later

significant works like " Power vs Force " by Hawkins.

I would recommend this book as required reading to anyone interested in the

field of kinesiology, its origins and applications. There have been recent

books written that appear to be more comprehensive in the applications of

kinesiology, but these are frequently over-reaching and innacurate in their

attempts to be everything to everybody.

Perhaps the most valuable aspect of this book is the clear direction given

on how to properly perform the technique of muscle testing.

Good beginners book, May 25, 2000

Reviewer: jaiisham (see more about me) from Iowa, USA

This book is a great beginners volume on the basic physical aspects of this

subject. I found the book lacking in the mental/emotional realms that could

be delved into using these methods. The book could have used a few more

illustrations or photographs depicting the exact methods and placements but

overall it is a great beginning.

This Book Has Changed My Life, January 29, 2000

Reviewer: Ruth D. (see more about me) from Cadiz, Kentucky, USA

I first read this book in 1984. At that time I knew nothing about the work

of the thymus gland in the body, and how it is affected by so many factors.

Reading this book has helped me greatly in knowing how cooperate with my

body to keep it healthy. It is truly valuable to know how to build the

immune system and increase our life energy by making choices in our everyday

lives that will help! I appreciated the chapter on stress and cerebral

balance. Being a musician, it reinforced my own belief that classical music

helps keep the mind and emotions in balance. In the last 16 years, I have

proven the truths in this book over and over, from the ideas about foods to

those about fabrics and circumstances. I have re-read this book many times,

and so have my daughters, and friends. I am so happy to find that I can

order copies for others from Amazon!

BEST book out there for beginners., January 27, 2000

Reviewer: Ard (see more about me)

This book is excellent for beginners. It tells you the how's, what's where's

and why's. It gives you are start on how to do it and the basics about why

it works. I am an experienced muscle tester and this book started me off

well. The person who wrote the 1 star review probably didn't invest any time

into the book. If you put nothing in you get nothing out. But this book

doesn't even require much investment. It is very easy to read, I finished it

for the first time in 2 days. I still keep coming back to it. For a more

advanced book, go to " Your Body Can Talk " . That is much more in depth.

Couldn't get through it..., May 29, 1999

Reviewer: A reader from Garland, Texas

I just never really could " get into " this book. It doesn't " read well " -

explanations were cumbersome and borderline boring. The author tells us

quite a bit about how the world we live in is not healthy for us - perhaps

true; but I am not yet willing to live in a bubble to stay healthy...

While I expected more information regarding muscle testing for body

weaknesses and determining alternative health needs, the author focuses more

on proving what substances are bad for us - white sugar, auto exhaust,

flourescent lighting, synthetic clothing materials, the list goes on...
