Guest guest
Hi Zohra, Congratulations on hearing on the phone and in quiet. There is no such thing as perfect " normal " CI hearing. We all hear differently depending on how long we've been deaf, how long we've been implanted, and which programs we are using. Remember that there are 8,000 hair cells in the normal cochlea, and we have replaced them with 22 electrodes. So the quality of hearing is going to be different with an implant. I think it's important that you are hearing well enough to talk on the phone. Hearing in noise is something people who have NO hearing problems find difficult. If you can lip read, you probably understand speech better in noise than most " normal hearing " people. How long were you deaf before getting the implant? The important thing to remember is how you hear NOW compared to how you heard before getting the implant. There is no need to try to compare yourself to how others hear with the implant, and there is NO Normal CI hearing. So, don't try to compare yourself with others; just compare yourself to how you heard before the implant. While I have the occassional CI moment even now, 6 years after my implant, I am pretty much hearing as well as I did at 6 months after the tune up. I think the implant is a great device to have! I just wanted to ask you that how long does it take for you to hear perfectly, like other normal people with the implant? Till now, I am able to talk on the telephone, and able to converse not too hard stuff without lipreading. But I have problems in hearing things if there is too much background noise. I just wanted to ask you, is it really possible that people like me could hear perfectly, like after 5 years or so?
