Guest guest
BunEWabbit, I've been zeroing in on you in my thoughts these last few days and particularly, with your having your TWO CIs turned on at once! It sounds like you remained calm throughout your activation and are beginning to experience the sounds of life. You're getting back into life, my friend! Welcome. I know your hearing world will get bigger and that speech will sound better...you're blooming like a flower. It makes me feel good to know that you had a large support system there with you for your hookup and a videographer there. This is an unforgettable moment in your life, one that you'll reflect on long after your hearing has grown so much. You're good to pace yourself and know when you're tired. Rest can be important in the first few days after activation and pacing yourself with your hearing. You're on the right track, relishing the sounds you hear and keeping your mind open for more. I'm very proud of you and the fortitude you've had every step of the way. I'm with you all the way. Guest guest
Great to hear that your floppy ears are working lol. Get lots of rest and don't forget the carrots and clover to get some energy for more CI moments. quick posting re:activation day The amazing journey out of silence began today at 1pm this afternoon. We were at the audiologist's office until 4:40pm.I was blessed to have my husband, mother, birthmother, sister, brother-in- law, best friend & her family, and our sister-in-laws parents (the ones who told me about Rush Limbaugh's CI & made me look into the possibility of the surgery. The videographer made a total of 12 present for this awakening out of silence. And the audiologist allowed everyone to witness the whole event! It was neat to hear the " beeps " and know each of the 12 electrodes in each ear work. For some weird reason, electrode #9 sounded pretty sweet & I felt like I could listen to that beeping for a long time. My brain is overwhelmed by the new sounds I am hearing. I have heard the turn signal in the car, I can hear for the first time the keyboard clicking as I type this, and it was amazing to hear all the birds, frogs, & crickets in the neighborhood this evening. But at this time, voices sound muffled & do not make sense. Overall, it was a good start and I have been reassured by so many of you in this forum that it will only get better from this point--what a comforting thought! I can't imagine how I would feel if I had not known to keep my expectations low for the initial turn-on. Now I must try to unwind & get some rest. Believe it or not, I was not all hyper this morning as I thought I would be. I was TIRED & SLEEPY! My birthmother has done a very good job of wearing me out on long hikes this weekend! :-) More to come later this week.... Guest guest
BunE, So glad to hear about your hookup. Sounds like you are doing great! I bet it was wonderful to hear again after weeks of silence, even if it wasn't perfect. It will be--just wait and see! That's quite a crowd you had there cheering you on! That's wonderful! Congratulations and I wish you many CI moments! Fisk Atlanta, GA CII 4/25/03, hook-up 5/27/
Guest guest
Oh BunE, It was so great to get up this morning and find your activation message. I liked reading about the " sweet " sounding electrode. I wonder what was so special about it. Try not to put a lot of pressure on yourself to hear perfectly right away. Take is slowly and enjoy the great miracle of sound you have been given. There is no race to achieve perfection. The simple things like birds and leaves under your feet or snow on the ground or a babbling brook are huge moments in the beginning. To hear the voices of family members, even if you have to watch them speak, is still a great blessing. The tapping of the keys and the clicking of the turning signal in the car were not there yesterday. Each day will bring you more and as you go for more mappings, you will increase the levels and hear more around you clearer and crisper. You have made it. You endured the waiting, the surgery and the recovery and you are now a hearing person. Congratulations! Guest guest
BunE, Welcome to the wonderful world of sound and yes, it does get better. Since I have met you, I know you have the determination to make this work. This has been a long time in coming for you but you finally made it. Can't wait to hear more of your CI moments and how you like bilaterals. So glad your family was there to share these precious moments. They only let 2 go in with me because we had the small room that day. Now you will be able to enjoy those long hikes even more but probably a little slower since you will be busy listening to everything. So leave early and enjoy!
