What a beautiful story! <smile> Annika sounds like she's making *wonderful* progress with her CI. Please keep those CI moments coming. They certainly are a joy to read! CI Moment Hi everyone I thought I would take a moment to share one of my precious CI moments with Annika. Here we are this morning and I am doing our daily routine check of her implants and applying the wig tape. Annika loves to sit there by me and watch everything I am doing. I had test one of her processors with the headset and was working on applying the tape on the second. Here is Annika holding the headphones to her ear and the CI headpiece to her mouth and there she is vocalizing like she has seen me do over and over and yet I know that she can't hear a thing. My heart just broke, tears welled up and I tried not to let her see me cry. It was a picture that will forever stay in my mind. If she ever does this again I will have the camera ready because then I will have a physical remembrance of it. And to top it off, I finished getting everything set up and she just patiently waited to get her sound hooked up. I put them on and turned on the one side. I said Hi Annika. Annika says Hi! Oh man, she is really working the tearducts today. She has just won Mom for the day. If she only understood that she could just about ask for anything today and she would get it. Also I have to tell you that last night we were having our last visit with her deaf mentor and we were all sitting down on the floor looking at books. We were signing all the body parts(there were pictures of them all on the cover) and we pointed to the eye and signed and voiced eye. Well, Annika turned around in my lap pointed to my eye and said " eye " . She did this several times and then went back to the book and pointed to an eye on a person in the book and said eye one last time. Wow!!!! Thanks for letting me share my emotional CI moment. Actually, I doubt I would have tried that stunt. I was having a conversation with one of the staff in the office. When I realized I just heard everything she said to me from across the room. It was that first sentence, so being excited in hearing with out a WHAT, WHAT DID YOU AGAIN I joyfully said " Wow I heard everything you said to me " Then completed my appt with feeling so good in being able to go thru a normal appt with out an interpreter and not needing it today to follow along! To be able to look in the person's face who is talking to me and communicate back is a Awesome!!! I'm such a Happy Camper these days, I feel like that little girl in learning new things and telling everyone everything I'm hearing again that has so long ago been lost and feels like all new. Well Off to bed for me now! lol I finally got thru all the great posts and comments from everyone today. Thanks all for your input and feedback. Was hoping that there would be a game this evening, but all the games were canceled due to the fact that Bush is paying our town a visit on Monday and the whole civic center is going to be closed off for that. They were even out cleaning the parking lot of all the dirt!! I trust my ci surgeon and believe I have a fantastic group of people working with me. Sharon went to the nursing home today.I can understand her much better with my cochlear.
