Guest guest
Reminds me of the time when I went for an eye exam on Feb. 18th.. I was nervous because I had only been hooked up since Jan. 9th. The doctor spoke slow and loud so I was able to understand her while I was looking through the lens and could answer her questions. Sure makes a big difference when you can hear without lipreading (I still have to lipread some people). Guest guest
Hi , It was interesting hearing what you said about your experience in the dentist office. It still is not one of my favorite places, but my comfort level at the dentist increased greatly post implant. That is one un-nerving place when you can't hear anything. Also I think that the powerful sound from my pre implant body aid made my teeth very sensitive, because that also got remarkably better post implant. Guest guest
, This is a wondeful CI moment for you and your boyfriend. Guest guest
Sharon, That's so awesome with your CI moments. I remember once when I came home from Georgia that I had to drive from American Fork to Springville. However, It was the most embrassment moment for me that I was told to pull off from the police which I had absouetly no had idea what I had to pull over to park so then I learned that I wasn't drive straight. I felt so exhuasted with the different time between Georiga and Utah that night I flew here from SHHH Convention. The policemen asked me if I've been drinking and I thought , Me? I just suddenly brawled myself with no reason because I was too tired and ready to go home and get some sleep that time was 2am and in Utah was at midnight. But it's such wonderful and easy to understand the policemen with flashlight with no problem. I'm so thankful to have CI that made my life so much easier and no causes. The nicest thing that the policemen had me following them to the nearby freeway so I was able to get to the fwy on the way to home. NO TICKET!!!!!!!!! Phew.. I explained to the handsome men that I flew here from GEORGIA. They trusted me because I have a clean history. Guest guest
Dora, I have to thank you for your comments about bells and had a beautiful bell collection when I was hearing. I loved the collection and when I lost my hearing, I gave all my bells away because it saddened me not to be able to hear each beautiful ring. I haven't replenished the collection, but you reminded me of it and have given me the desire to start another collection. Your ci moment brought me fond memories and a desire to enjoy them again. I'm enjoying everyone's ci moments. It's the small things that mean a lot in life. The things that others take for granted - we cherish. Alice More on bells..all the while I was deaf I was collecting bells. They stood on a shelf behind glass doors ,ringless, for 10 years..the only time they rang was when i dusted them but then their beautiful sound fell on deaf ears!!One day after I received my CI I was dusting them and WOW! how beautiful they sounded. Then I read an inscription on one of them..it read..A bell is not a bell until you ring it!After that I took them out of my hutch and scattered them all through our house. There's alot of bellringing now and my Grandkids love to ring them!!It is amazing that no two bells sound alike!! Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for asking how it's going. I know it's been awhile since I posted much here. Things are continuing to improve slowly. I recently had my high frequencies boosted up. They were down because they always seem too loud while doing the comfort level setting. I asked my audi to just boost it up to where all the other frequencies are and see what happened. I didn't find the highs bothersome to listen to when mixed in with all the other sounds, so I kept that setting. Environmental things sound much more " natural " to me now. Unfortunately, I seem to be understanding speech less well. I'm sure I just need to get used to it. I go in for another map next week, so hopefully that will help too. Happy Holidays to everyone! -----Original Message----- how is your hearing these days anyhow?
Guest guest
Hi , I'm glad things are improving for you and that you are able to have the high frequencies boosted some. As for not hearing speech as well, all I can say is hang in there and don't give up till you get a map that works well all the way around. Hopefully you will find that elusive " fine tuning " mark.. the one like when the radio is on a station, but it's not quite right and finally you get that tuner to kick in and the sound is clear as a bell. That is my wish for you and everyone else who is struggling trying to get that special map that will work for them. Guest guest
I am soooo jealous of both of you. I watched the Kennedy Honors but with captions since watching TV with my hearing aid is no fun. Music sounds awful! I think i will get a loop for the TV room. I heard that it might help. I was going to get a neck loop but I am a little confused as to what it is for. Ralph Chiaradia <ralph.chiaradia@...> wrote:Ruth, I went to bed thinking about those violins playing. I grew up with music, playing the saxophone & clarinet. I could barely hear my own clarinet. When in school as a child, a woman came in & played the harp. I was standing like 5 feet away & could barely hear it. Back in October I went to London & in one of the churches there was a large orchestra playing the most beautiful music. As I walk downed an outer isle I came to a spot where I was 5 feet away from the harp player. I stood there mesmerized by the sounds coming from that harp. My g/f was puzzled that I had stopped & was just standing there for the longest time, until she noticed I was staring at that harp, watching each string being plucked. What emotions! Ralph CII 8/01 HiRes 2/03 Watching the Kennedy Honors on TV tonight I am reminded of such a beautiful CI moment that I had in my first year of my CI 16 years ago. Itzhak Perlman was scheduled to play in my hometown. Someone gave me a front seat ticket to the concert. I was just in awe and tears as I heard his performance. It was extra special to me as I have a Bachelor of Music in Performance on the Violin...which I could no longer hear well enough to play.
