Guest guest
I just had a hearing evaluation and I was found to be a CI candidate. I was also told to make an appointment with a speech therapist and a psychologist. What is the purpose of these two additional appointments? What is the purpose of seeing a speech therapist (if there are no speech problems) and what is the purpose of the psychologist's session? Thank you in advance for your comments, Eli
Guest guest
Eli, I'm excited for you about your candidacy. Some centers require a speech therapist and a psychologist as part of their team to. The speech therapist will probably be part of your ongoing team after the implant to help the audiologist fine tune the mappings and will also help you to work on speech if it's needed, but for now, I'm sure it's an assessment. There are a series of questions that are asked of most CI candidates before the implant to make sure they have reasonable expectations. This is also done as part of the team normally and why you are asked to see the psychologist. Please don't worry about it as it's actually for your benefit.
