Guest guest
Hello everyone. Yesterday I met with someone who had somehow gotten my name either from this list or from my audiologist. I have never had the opportunity to sit with a CI user and just ask, ask, ask. Oh, we had the best time. We sat in Starbucks for a long time. The fellow is in his 20s and is prelingual. He's had his implant for five years. He speaks beautifully. He's learned a new language (German) and started learning guitar. We laughed and this fellow was so kind and wonderful that I truly felt like I was drunk on happiness. I asked him for advice, following the surgery, and he emphasized 1)patience and 2)not comparing myself to the progress of others. I have heard this so much on this list, and it was wonderful to hear it in person from another CI pro. Am waiting for a surgery date. Should be in March. I missed February by not calling the audiologist soon enough. Ohhhhhh. Cry, cry. This will be a good time to exercise 1)patience and not to 2)be envious of others going before me. Regards to all, Carol (in Va.)
Guest guest
Carol, I am so glad you had the opportunity to meet with a ci recipient ahead of time. although my mom was implanted for about 8 years or so before I had my ci.. I still didn't know just exactly what to expect as technology had changed so much and I didn't find these forums and supporters until right after I was implanted. I am so happy that I did find them though. I have made so many friends on the different forums and learned so much over the past couple of years. This is why I love helping others and meeting with potential candidates or those already implanted.. so that they may see for themselves what a ci can do for them and to give them the hope for a better life with a ci, answer any questions they may have, try to calm fears and just in general give them the support they are seeking face to face. Hang in there.. March is just around the corner along with Spring..LOL Wishing you a happy holiday. Hugs, Silly In , cdunlap58@a... wrote: > Hello everyone.
