Guest guest
There is no general rule; you do what works for you. At first i used ADRO at the movies (only on the BWP) but when I switched to the 3G, I noticed that the movies were so loud that the sound was distorted and hard to comprehend. So now I turn my sens wheel down and I am good to go! Guest guest
Pam, I don't think you're missing anything. The 3G only has two programs (P1 & P2). The adjustment wheel can be volume OR sensitivity (or maybe both) depending on how the 3G is programmed. In my case the audi has disabled the vol/sens wheel, as she doesn't want me making adjustments. She says people who have been used to HA for a long time, as I was, initially tend to turn the sound down as the CI provides so much more sound than the HA did. She wants me to make the adjustments in my head - ie learn to accomodate the sound, rather than filter the sound at the CI. Later on, as I get more used to things, she will activate the sensitivity control. I understand the BWP have more program oprions but I don't have one of those. Guest guest
Thanks for this, . I wasn't even aware that the BWP had more controls than the BTE. Guest guest
Yeah it got pretty LOUD, but I think a CI cuts down on some of the loud sounds. Guest guest
, 20 years? Wow! When you saw your first movie with a CI, were you overwhelmed by how loud some sounds were? I was. The noise wasn't painful -- I was just surprised at how loud certain sections of the movie were -- including the dialogue. I had forgotten how scenes in the movie can go from soft to loud (sometimes in a matter of seconds) depending on what is happening. Guest guest
, The sound of a movie in a theater is 10 times better than what it is on TV. (Unless you have an excellent stereo/sound system.) I would encourage you to try going to the movies just for the fun of it! Even if you can't understand the dialogue, you can enjoy all of the other sounds that take place within the movie. When my friends invited me to the movies tonight, I had no expectations whatsoever. I told myself that even if I couldn't understand the dialogue, I would enjoy listening to the background music and soundtrack. I was surprised by how much I heard tonight. I thought it would be difficult to understand dialogue over background music, but it wasn't as hard as I thought. In fact, it was much easier than it used to be -- even when I started wearing hearing aids for a moderately-severe loss. Guest guest
Nan, You're right -- it does. Tonight I kept sensitivity volume between 5 and 6. When I tried using autosensitivity, I found that it cut out too much background noise. Guest guest
, Now *that's* a thought! I haven't read any Harry Potter books -- although I plan to now that I can enjoy audio books once again. I have a suggestion: Why don't you watch all of the Harry Potter movies backwards from 5 to 1? It'll be just as fun as reading the last sentence of a good novel. LOL! Guest guest
, That *would* be quite a sight! LOL! My friend (the one who is moving into my neighborhood) is currently receiving home training to work with a service dog. I can't wait to hear people's reactions when they see two dogs at one time. In my better hearing aids when I attended social events for the blind, I loved hearing sighted people exclaim, " Look at all those dogs! They get along so well. " LOL! Guest guest
, your story and many of the others that I've read over the past weeks are really inspiring to me. I have just made an appointment at Gainesville /Univ.Fla. for a CI evaluation on September 29. It took me a while to decide and now I face it with a great deal of excitement. Judy Jax, Fl. Guest guest
, I agree. I tried to keep the sensitivity/volume dial on 3G set to 5-6, but had to turn it down several times during the movie. Even so, it still was nice being able to hear *and* understand a movie for the first time in 10 years! Guest guest
Judy, I'm glad my story and the others shared here have allowed you to look forward to what is possible thanks to the CI! <smile> I was in the same boat as you last year at this time. Reading about the experiences of others gave me hope and something to look forward to. With every post I read, I became more and more excited about what was possible for me. I wish you all the very best on your CI journey! May you fail with flying colors on September 29th!
