Guest guest
Hi Barbara, Do you take metho? I had mouth ulcers from taking metho and had to take folic acid. 1 mg. a day for weeks before it cleared up. Maybe you could have a folic acid deficiency too. Theresa B. Guest guest
I have also been plagued at times with mouth ulcers probably from the methotrexate or the immune system!! I have some great ideas that have worked for me. The number one thing that I got from a pharmacist/nutritionist at a speciality pharmacy is a product which she swore by and guaranteed my money back if it did not work was made by PhytoPharmica (they have a website) but you cannot order from it. Anyway the product is called Alticort, it is for psoriasis. I know it sounds wierd but you dab some on with a q-tip and it is like magic they disappear within a day or two. It even says not to be used on mucous membranes, so I was hesitant and emailed the company and they even said she knows what she is talking about and said it was safe. It is a ingredient in it called 18-beta-glycrrhetinic acid (from licorice extract) that is magically to mouth ulcers. If I even feel one coming on I use it and it prevents the full blown one that would normally follow. I have had mouth ulcers for months at a time but not anymore. I also emptied a capsule from the same company into very small amount of water called Zymedophllis (spelling??) and swished it around to help heal mouth tissue and adds normal flora. Other things that i have found on my quest are: 1. Find a toothpaste that does not contain SLS sodium lauryl sulfate. A study found that it helped by 75% or so in prevented them. This toothpaste is hard to find but I have seen some on the web and I bought mine at a healthfood store. 2. I have read the saukerquart juice swished in mouth works too. Although I have never tried it. 3. vitamin E get caps put liquid on the ulcer helps heal them. 4. Also tea bags either the green tea or black tea heals mouth sores. Sometimes even drinking the tea and swishing it in mouth works too. 5. Benedryl, the liquid, swished in mouth, helps by drying them out. Good luck, Diane

Guest guest
Barbara, I have found that mouth ulcers are usually around when we lack iron and or B vitamins. I've also use l-lysine to help get rid of them. Guest guest
You can also buy folic acid over the counter - 400mcg's - take 3/day. Super cheap -works just the same even if your doc trys to tell you a prescription is better. Mark Re: rheumatic Mouth Ulcers > From: NILOB1@... > > Barbara, also i forgot to add the folic acid. Guest guest
I saw a guy on the Roseanne Bar show that called in from Holland a Dr. Rath. He said that most heart disease and artery deposits are from Scurvy. And that taking high levels or Vitamin C and Lisiene and some other medication they have had a high success rate over there r\eversing deposits or the arteries and clearing up heart and stroke problems. May be worth checking out. Love,
Guest guest
The " Shute Institute " in north america focuses primarly on using Vitamin C to reverse artery/corinary problems... -Mike- Re: rheumatic Mouth Ulcers From: KPSB2@... Guest guest
there is either a virus or something going around causing them in the last few weeks............... Rich
Guest guest
Sometimes they can be caused by allergies. I know that it is peck season here in Texas. My mother-in-law, sister-in-law and myself have all had the darn things for the past few weeks, and along with those came the watery eyes and sneezing. That is why I am treating them with bendryl swish and spit. Really helped all of us, so far all are resolved and no recurrence. Also, HSVI is a issue for some that are having stress brought on either emotional or physical. Just a thougth. HTH Dena
Guest guest
I've suffered from " cold sores " nearly my whole life. Occassionally I will get them inside my mouth as well. Based on my success with Valtrex, my doc believes mine is probably HVI (which, while normally " below the waist, " can also occur " above the waist " ) or HVII. Mine are triggered by stress, sunlight, foods, not enough sleep, too much sleep, colds, flus, etc. ... etc. ... etc. ... As I get older I get them fewer and fewer (really, almost never, thank goodness), but someone on this list has recommended the herb as being particularly effective. (Funny cuz that's my name...) > > Any ideas on what causes them? I thought it was glutamates when Harry had them before but he doesn't really eat them much now. > TIA > Prue > > >
Guest guest
Just to clarify HSV I is " cold sore " herpes and HSV II is genital herpes. Of course both can be spread to either place but typically when I practitioner says HSV I it is above the waist. HTH Dena
Guest guest
Yes, I agree with Rich. I had that horrible flu and at the end of it I got the herpes sore on the outside of my lip. I used to get these when I was younger. But haven't had any the past several years. I am chalking it up to having the flu (it was awful, lasted for over a week, and I still have a little cough and don't have all of my energy back). Also, at work on Monday night (I'm a dental hygienist), I had two patients that had herpes starting on their lips. Both of them said they were getting over the flu. > there is either a virus or something going around causing them in the last > few weeks............... > > Rich > > >

Guest guest
Peta, this is a long shot here but I thought I should mention it. I have a friend whose mom had mouth ulcers among other things. Turned out she had a mold problem in her house. There is a kind of black mold that can grow hidden in the walls sometimes. If you notice any black mold spots in your house anywhere I’d have them checked just to be sure it isn’t a kind that can affect humans. Just thought I’d mention the possibility. Guest guest
Stachi Botrus (sp) is the mold. We are also mold specialists. That is really nasty and nothing short of rebuilding the house can be done if it has spread very far. Shari
