Guest guest
Steph, Are you having reflux at night when you lay down, because this was my biggest symptom that something was wrong. defanie1 <defanie@...> wrote: Hi Nina and all! It has been ages since I have posted, almost everyone on here seems new, but I need some help now! I was banded May 10, 2005 so I am almost 37 weeks post op, I have lost 60 pounds so far. I have started to have some odd symptoms in the last few weeks and I am a little nervous that my band may have slipped or I am having some other kind of complication. My stomach makes REALLY loud gurgling or bubbling noises all the time, when I eat, when I don't eat, when I drink, when I don't drink. It is so loud other people can hear it, and it feels like I need to burp all the time, but I can't. Sometimes I can eat anything just fine and sometimes I can barely get liquids down. Sometimes it is tighter in the morning sometimes not, sometimes I can't drink water but I will eat an egg and be fine then a couple hours late I will try water and again can't get it down. I can't find a good source for what the symptoms are for band slippage, but something seems to be happening that I can't explain. Any ideas?Thanks!242/182/142 What are the most popular cars? Guest guest
Cher, Stafanie has not answered so I cannot tell you about her but in your case, with what you described in your private email, it seems that you are too tight. Please go back to liquids for a few days so that the area of the band gets unswollen and you can start all over again. For everyone... when you have a sitaution where you vomit or PB on food you need to stay on liquids for the rest of the day and give a break to your band, the following day try and see how it feels and how well food goes down. After an incident of vomiting or PBing the area of the band gets swollen and then nothing will go down, many people try to force things down even thought it is not going down and more swelling occurs. Just give your band a break and let is rest and start over. Sepcially after a fill when you do not know how restricted you really are, start slowly and build up from there, liquids, soft foods then solids. Some people may have to stay on clear or thick liquids for a couple of weeks if the band is too tight. You need to learn to listen to your band. Soemtiems youa re ifne at the doctors office when you get yoru fill but the a few days or weeks later it kicks in and is tighter, go back to liquids, you will tell if it has gotten tighter. You have to listen to your band and just go with what it needs. Not being able to keep things down is not how the band works, you should not be losing weight beause you cannot eat. Remember that voimiting is what causes the band to slip, if after a few days on liquids the swelling or the restriction does not get any better you need to have the band unfilled. Guest guest
Nothing changed that I can think of, My last fill was October 18. I had my first fill from Dr. Aveces and that was 1.7 cc 6 weeks post- op in June. On 9/26 I had another fill from a doctor here and went to 2.7- that was TOO Much so I had it all taken out on October 14 and I could eat like I hadn't even had surgery, so I went back on October 18 and I think I am 2 cc's now, but it might be 2.2 I can't remember for sure. I had good restriction though, it didn't seem too tight, it did get tighter after about a week though, which is wierd to me. And it is tighter in the mornings, a lot of times I start out drinking in the morning and it takes me all day to build up to eating something. I try not to eat at least 4 hours before I go to bed or I do seem to have trouble sometimes. I don't know if it is reflux or not, but I have actually thrown up in my sleep a couple of times. It of course wakes me up, it's just a little bit in my mouth but I have breathed it into my lungs each time which really sucks! I am good about after I do get a little sick on something I will drink liquids for a day or two. I am doing better now, but I am still not sure what the symptoms of slippage are. > > > > Hi Nina and all! Guest guest
, SInce I am probably the only one on here who knows that my band has slipped, I will tell you my symptoms. Not all people will be the same. After about 3 months after my first fill, every time I laid down at night, I would start off burping, I would get a burning sensation in the back of my throat, and I couldn't sleep unless I slept sitting up. I threw up to in my sleep (liquid several times in the middle of the night. but the heart burn and burping consistantly everytime I laid down was my only symptom. I hope this helps. Guest guest
, Not everyone has the same symptoms of a slipped band. Most patients know something is wrong, many cannot keep anything down, they vomit very frequently, some have a lot of reflux. If the slippage is very bad then nothing, not even water will stay down, the passthrough is completely blocked. A tight band can have very similar symptoms. It is normal for the band to be tighter in the morning. Many patients are not able to eat anything semi solid until after 11:00 am , as the day progresses it is normal that you can eat more. Just go with your band, have a protein shake in the morning and progress form there, semi solid at lunch and have your dinner with solid food, early, not too late. Do not force food down. Remember that the food stays in your pouch a long time and sleeping a few hours after eating will make the food come back up. Specially if you are too tight, the food will stay there longer. Some patients might only need 1 hour before going to bed but if you band is tighter you need more hours before going to bed. The doctor recommends you take Gaviscon ( over the counter)to help with the acid reflux, take it before you go to bed if needed. Changing habits is best though. It is also normal for a " fill " to feel tighter a few weeks after you get it. This does not happen to everyone but it does happen to a lot of people. It is better to be underfilled than to be overfilled. It is better to go back and have just a little bit more put in if needed after a few weeks then to live with a very tight band which might slip. Staying on liquids for a few days can help in case that the band area is swollen or you are tight just for a few days for any reason. If this does not help you are probably overfilled and should go back to have some taken out, you need to have a good quality of life and be able to eat while you have your band.
