Guest guest
So glad to hear that all went well, Ruth. Now that surgery is behind you (and it was better than you expected, probably), you can settle in and get to know your band. You will not regret it and before long we'll be hearing about all your successes! Good luck! Jackie S >

Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I am glad to hear all is going well for you Ruth. Welcome to the losing side. I dont post a lot, but wanted to say hi to everyone who is banded and all that are going to be and those that are thinking to get banded. I am starting my 5th week today and when I weighed this am I have lost 19# in a total of four weeks. I am thrilled and so glad I made the decision to have this surgery done. I did not tell many that I was going to Mexico to have this done, because of any remarks that might have been made about going out of country. But rest assured, the Dr. and the whole staff are wonderful. The facility is very clean, and I would go back in a heart beat. Nina also hooked my husband up with a dentist there and he left this morning to have his teeth fixed. We do not have insurance and we could not afford almost $9500.00 for dental prices in the US. So he had a consultation and a root canal done while I was having lap band surgery and he decided to go back and have the rest of his teeth done. I guess I am saying all of this, to let any of you know that you are in good hands with Dr. Aceves and his staff. Guest guest
Tracie, you can tell everyone that they need to take a look really close before entering a Hospital here. I heard a report this week about infection in hospital's in the US. You won't find a cleaner hospital anywhere cleaner then Altimer. All they need to do is read the paper and find all kinds of problems in US Hospitals and with US doctors. That doesn't mean that all US doctors are bad just like it doesn't mean all Mexico doctors are bad. When they see that you are doing fine afterwards that will speak louder then words. People are just scared of what they don't know. You just keep doing what your doing and know that you have talked to people on this sight that know the truth and you will also soon enough. Belinda Glad, it went so well for you RUth, if all goes well I might be having my surgeyr in less then 10 days, now if I could just get all these supporters I thought I had, to stop giving me articles about surgery in Mexico, SHEEESHHH, my mom, my co-workers, they are all so worried, now that the day is approaching, I tell them to leave me alone, I'm not going to some chop-shop, behind the streets clinic, my gosh, they must think I am stupid, desperate or what, but anyways, great to hear you are doing so well, it's emails like yours that I save to show to everyone they are worried for nothing. Guest guest
I liked chicken over beef broth myself. I also used Top Ramen noodle broth packets and just threw away the noodles (or let my kids cook em and eat em with butter). I liked the variety of shrimp, beef brisket, oriental, etc. Because after so long on liquids, you are going to want variety. One packet makes 2 cups of broth and I would just store it in the fridge. Also make sure you stock up on the isopure! tkbartek@... wrote: Hi, guys, ok, so I am having surgery in one week, and wanted to know what all I should be doing this week before surgery, and (since I am not a cook) what is the best broth to buy for the weeks after surgery. Guest guest
Thanks , I am so excited after a year of waiting, that is a great idea, never would of thought of the Top Ramen and how inexpensive, anyways, is isopure the clear liquid protein, or is it just your choice of protein drink, or is it what you need for the first two weeks. Guest guest
You have to have the isopure (or any other brand of clear liquid protein ) for the first 2 weeks, then you can move on to other types of protein drinks. Also I would stock up on gatoraide. Re: I'm home and banded! Belinda - you hit the nail on the head! I hate it, so I got along fine without it during the clear liquid phase. The Isopure is packed with protein (80g I think). I took it with me to show Dr. A and he said it was fine to drink during clear phase. I think it helped with energy level. Did fine with it at that time although the thought of those flavors makes me kind of gag now :-) You might also try egg flower soup (straining any bits and pieces). Guest guest
Absolutely. Guess that's another reason the band is good - flexibility/personalization of we can/can't tolerate, etc. To each his own! Guest guest
Thanks Belinda, I have been going back over all my notes and reading every body's comments over the last year. Everybody had been so helpful. Don't ask me where I got it, maybe off of Dr. Aceves web page, but I printed awhile back an article that was titled Pouch Rules for Dummies, but as I was reading it, it was mainly referring to people who have had the Gastric Bypass, I'm wondering do the same rules apply to people who have the band. Has anyone else read this article. Pounch Rules for Dummies. Thanks Tracie 240/
Guest guest
Oh, Belinda can we have whip cream on the jello? (wishful thinking()
Guest guest
WOW< JACKIE YOU are down to 268, that is so awesome, thinks for the advice, yes I went and paid my 39.00 for a 3lb thing of ISOPURE CHOCOLATE and I got a case of Gatorade and a case of chicken broth, from my favorite store, SAMS CLUB. and I have that Jell-O stuff from my last diet. so hopefully I am ready to go. The Pouch Rules for Dummies, that I mentioned before, gave some great advice of living with the band after the first year and once you have lost most of the weight. It sure would be nice to hear from all the gang like Debi, Sara, (we heard from) and all the other Dr. Aceves supports who use to post a year ago. Nina, where have they all gone? Guest guest
Jackie , sorry but not sure what egg flower soup is, doesn't sound to appealing. Tracie 240/
Guest guest
I didn't like the isopure either, at least the flavor I had bought (but I had also drank it all by the time we drove back to Texas and didn't have anymore) but I would think mixing it with gatorade would taste pretty good? Re: Re: I'm home and banded! That's funny Jackie because I couldn't stand Isopure so I lived on Jello for the first 2 weeks. That just goes to show that everyone is different and you will haft to find what works for you.BelindaJackie S <scottland@...> wrote: > Tracie, Don't forget the jello it will become your best friend.
