Thanks Suzanne, that's what I'm looking for, but have you made this soup? I'd really like one that someone has tasted or made so I KNOW it's good. I don't want to have to make a "practice" batch!

Slow-Cooked Black Bean Soup

Adapted from Vegetarian Soups for All Seasons, by Nava Atlas (Amberwood Press, 2006).

I have this book and have made many of the soups from it. This Black Bean one you picked was fabulous. I always make notations after recipes when I make them and on this one I noted that I added some steamed squash and cooked brown rice at the end and I then pureed half of the soup to make it thicker.

Yep..I made it. I don't remember it but I have written that it was "fabulous" next to the recipe. I made some modifications as I mentioned.

How can you make soup without those ingredients???? That's just flavored water in my estimation!!!

I got out my soup cookbook and found a Cream of Caulifllower Soup that I also noted as "fantastic". It has a can of Great Northern beans in it, HOWEVER, you also puree half the soup. You could puree the beans and they'd never know it!!!

I'm too dang cold lately

I have no inclination for raw food in the cold weather. I eat hot soup everyday, starting with breakfast. I can't get enough of it. I love raw in the hot weather, but come Winter my body says "heat that stuff up!".

I have a Pumpkin Soup that I wrote "excellent" next to. Think I made it last year. It's from Deepak Chopra's cookbook. NO beans, but does have some vanilla soymilk in it. And no peppers or garlic in it.

Thanks Gloria. Now I have found out my mil doesn't want anything with BEANS!!! or GARLIC or HOT PEPPERS!!! What the happy heck does that leave?! How can you make soup without those ingredients???? That's just flavored water in my estimation!!!

I'm going to try the black bean and the Garlicky White Bean anyway. So much for being 100% raw through the winter! I had already planned not to be anyway. I'm too dang cold lately.

Hmmm, didn't know Chopra had a cookbook. Interesting. Guess I need to make a list and a trip to the library.

"The Chopra Center Cookbook....Nourishing Body and Soul". I bought it at Ollies (a discount store) but I'm sure you can get it on Amazon or any bookstore. Yes...try the library first.
