Guest guest
Suzi, Have sundried lots of tomatoes this season and seems to take a long time. I probably have no choice, but grateful with the crop. Can I use these tomatoes then in fresh salads after I assume I soak them in water????? Thanks. carolgSuzanne <suziesgoats@...> wrote: why not dehydrate some tomatos... ""sun dried" and you can keep them awhile.. Have to box, cover the tomatoes to slow them down as lots of green ones too. Thinking lots of raw veggie pizza and considering freezing them as "finished." May start new topic for my pizza talk. Guest guest
I whiz them up in salad dressings or in sauces. Or eat them like dried fruit. The cherry tomatoes I dried last year were like raisins. Gayla Always Enough RanchAcampo, Californiahttp://bouncinghoofs.com/alwaysenough.htmlBill Barnhill is our Inspiration! The tomatoes aren't going to taste like fresh tomatoes. I'm sure you can sprinkle them on salads or put a few in the dressing. Good to see you so excited about all those homegrown tomatoes you got!!!!!! Gloria
Guest guest
Sure will have lots of sauces and dressings--some being orange as the Roma orange tomates were just unbelievable. Next year surely on the top of my list. They were also huge...very plumpy. Hugs, carolgGayla <aeranch@...> wrote: I whiz them up in salad dressings or in sauces. Or eat them like dried fruit. Guest guest
Yes, I'm going to dry, dry, dry tomatoes...no sweat...figured I can then turn them into salsa down the road if need be or even topping on pizza crust or...whatever else comes my way in ideas. Guest guest
Chalking tonights dehydrator experience a "hope don't repeat." I used the very thin blade on food processor, then drained the excess water and it came out like a blob of tomatoes sitting on the drying Excalibur sheets. Well I suppose it can be tomato crumbs. I shoujld ahve used the thicker blade but didn't think about this challenge. Oh well. carolgcarolG <cgiambri@...> wrote: Yes, I'm going to dry, dry, dry tomatoes...no sweat...figured I can then turn them into salsa down the road if need be or even topping on pizza crust or...whatever else comes my way in ideas. Guest guest
When I use regular tomatoes, I cut them in half then dehydrate. they have so much water they come out as flat as crackers. This year I used Roma types and cut them 1/4 inch thick. That worked just fine. Save your crumbles. They wil blend up in sauces. Guest guest
At this point I will have no choice but deal with crumbled tomatoes once dehydrated. Hugs, hugs, and more hugs, carolg.
