Guest guest
Hi Stan and Doug, Glad the information was of use. They used to do a test called a promontory stimulation (Prom Stim) to see if the auditory nerve was in tact. Mine was, so we went ahead with the worse ear (deaf and no stimulation for 20 years). Now I'm reading about audiologists saying you should wear a hearing aid in an ear that is deaf to keep it " stimulated " . If the sound isn't getting anywhere anyway, why waste the batteries using a HA? Makes about as much sense as turning on a light before you leave a room. D'uh. Might be a plot on the part of the battery sales folks. All I know is my " dead " ear was implanted and does just fine. Figure it had 20 years to rest, so it's 20 years younger and less wear and tear than the other ear. Nucleus Volunteer , thanks from me too. And, good luck with your insurance Doug. Hope your surgery date gets here quickly. My hearing info was faxed to the surgeon yesterday. So, hope to hear something soon.
