Guest guest
Hey, I am 43 :0). I had surgery from Dr Aceves July 20, 2005. I was really worried about Mexico as well. If I could do it all over again, I would. If my insurance covered my surgery in the states or if I had a million dollars, knowing what I know now I would still have Dr Aceves do the surgery. I got the BEST medical care I have ever received and I have had many surgeries in the states. Dr Aceves is compassionate and is an awesome surgeon. His whole staff truly cares about you every minute you are in their care. I totally understand the scariness of the unknown. The Mexico situation is a non-issue once you see how nice the hospital is and how great the care is. I hope others will tell you about their experiences as well. I feel wonderful after being banded. July 20th I was 210 lbs, and today I am down to 172. I hope, no I will be positive I know by my anniversary date I will be at my goal of 140. Never before did I feel so much in control of my own health. The Band is a miracle for me. I do hope this works out for you. If you need to talk, or have any questions please feel free to call my cell # 425-346-0713. I would love to help in anyway. Also, this is one of the best support groups. You will find a family that really cares about you and wants to help you become a successful bandster. Good Luck and God Bless! WA State Banded 7/20/05 210/172/140 Just thinking about it... My husband and I have been trying to decide if this surgery is the route I want to take to help me lose weight. My biggest concern is the problems my excess weight is causing with my health. I have problems with arthritis and I have fibromyalgia so I know the extra weight I carry around makes those things worse. I am also beginning to have problems with high blood sugar. This is not the way I want to live my life! I am only 42 and I have two sons that I want to be around when they grow up and have families of their own! I have to do something but I know that the gastric bypass is NOT the route I want to go. In doing research on the internet, my husband ran across Dr. Aceves and has talked with Nina about the cost. I look at the information everyday but still can't make up my mind. It's not the surgery that I am apprehensive about, but, I guess it is the thought of having this done in Mexico. I guess this is crazy but I just don't know. I would LOVE to hear from some of you, specifically about how you made that final decision to go ahead with the procedure. Guest guest
I didn't have to think very long or hard about having the band and especially having it in Mexico by Dr. A. I go down on the 25th and couldn't be more excited. I did my research and know that this is what I want to do. The posts from everyone that have gone to Dr. A only re-enforces my decision. This team not only obviously know what they are doing but excell in bed side manners. I'll write more on this subject after I get back, that way I will have first hand knowledge. I am 52 and have allowed my weight to control my life for way to long. I can't wait to write in that I am now wearing a size 10!!!!!!!!! Guest guest
The socalled "risks" of going to Mexico (which NONE of them proved true, the hospital was clean, the staff were skilled and the water is boiled or bottled) were far outweighed by the REAL risks I was running in NOT getting the weight off. I also have fibromyalgia, and broke a leg and ankle reeeeaaally bad..so the ankle joint is irrepairable without replacement...so I was in a LOT of pain. And I was borderline diabetic, and my cholesterol and blood pressure were really high too. I feel better, look better...and would bet $$ that my yearly checkup in Feb shows everything much closer to normal ranges. Just go for it...believe me, you will NOT regret it!!BIG HUGS, AND GOD'S BLESSINGSDawnita MayLowpass, Oregon10/05/05 dob "Iraida" 209/179/135 5ft 3inches See Mylatest photos at: http://dawnita1961.myphotoalbum.com/
Guest guest
I too was very nervous about going to Mexico to have the surgery. I am scheduled for January 12th and am very excited (and yes, a little nervous). I am 45 and have 3 sons and I too want to be around for my grandchildren. My health isn't terrible, but diabetes runs in my family on both sides and I have obstructive sleep apnea that requires me to wear a CPAP to sleep. I also have high blood pressure so with all that put together I was a good candidate but my health insurance won't cover it. My husband and I talked about it and there was no way for me to afford having it done in the US. So, I went on line and starting researching, e-mailing and talking to those that have been through it. I spent 6 weeks doing research every night and finally chose Dr. Aceves for two main reasons. First, he didn't automatically accept me (other docs didn't even ask me about my health), and there is so much on-going support. One of the doctors I looked at didn't give any information on diet or excercise before or after the surgery, they just band you and send you home (yikes!) So, I'm glad you asked and I hope you get lots of encouragement from those that have already made the decision. Good Luck! > > > My husband and I have been trying to decide if this surgery is the route I want to take to help me lose weight. Guest guest
Hi I had a kind of unique situation. My daughter was determined to have this surgery in Mexico with Dr. Aceves after doing the research and announced it to me when I went to visit her. I, of course gave her all the arguements I could think of for not doing it in Mexico but she printed out all the info she had and made me read up on it. Her family had lived in Colombia for several years and her husband and son had both had favorable experiences in hospitals there. Also, my son's wife had died after a tonsilectomy in an American hospital so I am not all that impressed with some of our hospitals and Drs. After doing alot of researching of my own I felt comfortable with her going to Mexicali for her surgery but I wanted to go with her for moral support AND to check everything out in person. I couldn't have been more impressed! As you have probably read, the hospital is clean, the personnel very friendly and caring and the surgical team was skilled and professional. Dr. A has been doing these surgeries longer than any American Dr. has and he was trained by Inamed--the maker of the band he uses. I came home and announced to my husband that I too wanted to have the surgery. I am 66 years od and wish I had done this a long time ago but I am grateful to Dr. Aceves and his team for everything they have done for me and also to all the people in this support group for their input. Go for it! You won't regret it! Remember, we are all here for you! Guest guest
Hi,Liz here. I was banded by Dr. Aceves on 8/11/05. PreSurgery weight 275#'s. Now 237#s. I picked Dr. Aceves because of the things I read on this site and because he works out of an immaculatly (sp) clean hospital and not just a clinic. I picked him beacuse I was treated with respect and compassion by his staff. My surgery lasted 24 or 27 miutes and I have never had a moments pain from it. The Dr's staff was so kind and caring. You're not treated like "the fat american with the checkbook" if you understand my meaning. They really do care about how you feel both mentaly and physically and they take good care of your traveling companion too. It's the best gift I've ever given myself as I too have a young son I'd like to be around to watch grow up.I guarantee you will fall in love with Dr. A and his entire staff. They are the cream of the crop! If you'd like to talk just send me a private email at airbart@... and we can trade tele. numbers. I live in CA.>> > My husband and I have been trying to decide if this surgery is the route I want to take to help me lose weight.
