Hi all ,.. I too have been tired and weak since the surgery 2 years ago. But it

has gotten a bit better with vitamins and supplements but my biggest problem is

loss of sexual desire. I think it goes hand in hand , but I def. do not have the

desire I used to! My Dr suggested maybe Female viagra or a Psycolgical exam? I

don't feel I need the exam because nothing has changed in my life other than the

weight loss which saved my life! Any one go through this?Ellen

Are antibiotics ok?

Hi Guys,

Does anyone remember if it is ok to take antibiotics? Please let me

know asap. Thanks :)

Hi Ellen,

Yes, not too long ago there was a big discussion here titled " Libido " . Maybe

you can visit the website posts/prevoius thread on it. Someone suggested

higher doses of Zinc, so I increased my intake and it seems to be working.

Still

hasn't restored my high levels of " animal lust " , if you will, but I feel

better than I've been!

What a stinker, eh? To look this good and not want to do anything with it!!!

No, i'm just the opposite; my sexual desires doubled. Just make yourself maybe

you need a few just starts.

Try a different place other than the bed. We have tried many new places but

that's cause the urge hit and we thought why not. The car is an extension of

our home, hahahaha.

Just try to find humor in all you do now.

Hi,

Many many many of us are going through similar problems. Makes me wonder.

Hormone replacement therapy is always an options, but then you have to put

up with the serious side affects. A lot of people out there think it is a

mental issue. Some say alternative medicine is the answer. Who really

knows?

Hi, I would like to chime in on this. I was talking to Dr. R this

weekend about this very topic. Luckily my lab work coincided with

visiting LV. He also gave me the " hole in the bucket " analogy about

menstruation and low iron. He told me this before and I thought I

would try suppliments instead. Well, a few months later, my levels

are lower yet and now he explained again why my periods have to

stop. He said that after surgery we just can't replace our lost iron

like we used to be able to. Its the same reason we can't donate

blood and bounce back either. Dr. R said it is easier to maintain

your levels than to try to replace them.

He also said that the low iron can effect hormone and libido levels

as well. That ties neatly into my other problems. Right now I am

feeling like I get the carpet pulled out from under me a couple times

a day. I feel dizzy and lightheaded for no reason. It is usually

after I eat in the morning. I have a big dose of elete drops already

by then and that doesn't help. Last week I had someone check my

sugar levels I felt so woozey and they were fine. Now I think it is

the iron.

Speaking of frustrations with Gp's... mine called yesterday to say to

take suppliments for the iron levels that are 1/2 of low normal. I

feel like crap, I'm missing work because dizziness and 21 6 year-olds

in a small room is not a happy mix. (I'm a K teacher) I have an

appointment tomorrow even though he specifically told me not to see

him for 6 weeks. I have printed some messages from the board that

have info about the low iron treatment from Dr. R. I feel like I'm

going to have to get in his face a bit to get the treatment my

surgeon recommends. I don't like to feel like I am being alarmist,

but I need him to hear me.

I'm not looking forward to stopping my periods for the rest of my

life, I'm 33, but I am willing to do it if it keeps me from dropping

lower. I've got to start feeling better. Thanks for listening,

in LA

Dear ,

My plastic surgeon and first PCP had me start taking Fergon, which is a

Ferrous Gluconate. I take it 2 x day with chewable vitamin C and it was

maintaining my iron levels after I got them boosted with an infusion. This

worked

beautifully for 2 years until I had my next round of plastic surgeries. My

common

denominator is every time I have plastic surgery, within 4-6 months I can

guarantee a return of anemia and require iron infusions.

The reason for this OTC drug of choice is because it has something to do

with the bioavailability of gluconate vs. sulfate. Please ask your Dr about

Fergon.

Update... I went to my GP about my low iron levels and

lightheaded/dizzy feeling. I took my husband with me just because I

felt things might go a little better. Well, my GP totally

disregarded my low lab results and went right to my achilles heal--

past depression. He started to tell me that my symptoms of fatigue

and spells of dizzyness are due to depression. Hey, I'm no stranger

to depression, but really? Does it come and go for a couple hours

several times a day? I could feel my bp rising listening to him tell

me I just needed some Zanax. My hubby was waiting for my head to

spin around... When I said I don't think so, then he said he would

offer me a CAT scan for my head...great, he still thinks my problems

are in my head.

Finally I get him to call Dr. R who tells him, stop the " flow " . He

could understand that finally, yet it will be another month before I

can see my Gyn because he wouldn't touch the hormone issues. My GP

refused to admit that my iron, which has fallen more than 10 points

since my surgery, and it was below normal to start with could be

causing my fatigue. I left pissed off. I hate when someone tells me

that I'm not feeling what I am feeling. Anyway, I needed a place to

vent. Thanks,

in LA

My husband comes home for lunch while the kids are in school! It works for us.

However, we still have to lock the bedroom door because we have 3 cats and one

black lab who all think they need to watch! LOL

Find another doctor who understands the affects of the MGB or any other

by-pass, for that matter. It makes all the difference in the world! Even if

you had not had the MGB, I'd still say, " Find another cdoctor...one who will

listen to you. " We very often have intuition about what's wrong. They need

to figure out the puzzle, but not assume everything is in our heads, for

goodness sake. I'll bet that MD is not married!
