I read about him on the Lean & Strong board. Haven't picked up the

latest MM yet. Stuck home w/no wheels; it'll have to be my next

grocery trip. I can't wait to read it.

Great to have familial inspiration.

Tell your BIL thanks for being an inspiration to all of us! Stories

about people like him really get me excited about the changes I am

making! I got that mag and showed the pics to my dh. He was really

impressed at the changes.

Penny - me again, I just read your second post. GRRRRRRR. Is he overweight? Maybe you could tell him that you just read A is contagious and you think he ought to contract it from you so he can lose some weight, too! lol! Of course I'm kidding, but I can feel your frustration.

After suffering for years with this undiagnosed, I went in for my last pap smear & the doctor (who has seen me through 4 pregnancies) looks at my buck naked self (from the gynecological end), his eyes bugging out & says, "WOW! YOU'VE LOST WEIGHT!" I wanted to yank my foot out of the stirrup and kick him in the nose, but he looks too much like Gere & I couldn't do it. lol!

The bottom line is, even if the guy is a bit of a jerk, is he a good surgeon? Is he a good doctor? Is it worth getting another opinion? I think it is GREAT to LIKE your doctor if you can, but I'd rather have a very competent surgeon who lacks in tact than a nice guy who doesn't know what the heck he is doing.

We are behind you, girl. Hang in there & just be as healthy as you can. Cindi

Penny, was this the same doc in London that went to? If not, you

may want to see who she used to see if you can get a second opinion from

him?

Penny - Sorry you did not kick him in the teeth !!!!

Can you not find another surgeon to go to? I am concerned that he simply does not do the wrap - just tells you that with no reasons and consultation about what you might want. I am in the position where I am on ant-acid medication for the treat of my life after they damaged the wrap during dilatation, and honestly the stuff does not always work and I would so like to have my old wrap back thanks very much ! Guess I will have to have repeat surgery anyway. Do investigate an alternate surgeon.

Hi Penny,

My GI doctor is a bit like this. He was like, " well your achalasia

must not be too bad because you're not losing much weight. " It

always made me feel like he thought I was wasting his time because I

wasn't sick enough and I had the nerve to continue to be fat with

this disorder.

I was still able to eat, but because it was so difficult, I wasn't

eating healthy foods, unhealthy junk food stuff seemed to go down the

easiest, so I was eating very poorly nutrition-wise. I also felt so

tired and down, I didn't exercise much. I had to drink 5 liters of

water each day in order to eat at all, and so was doing myself more

damage in esophageal dilation, none of which registered with him.

You should probably find another doctor, one that's not such an ass,

and one that can offer you the choice of a wrap.

Penny,

I'm sorry to hear that the doctor took that "attitude" with you. I hate to hear about doctor's who are truly clueless when it comes to compassion and understanding about suffering.

Keep your chin high and keep positive, if you can!

Penny, your friends are with you and will support you here. The people here understand what you're going through, so keep coming here.

Take care,

Jan from NKY

Penny,

Please, please find another doctor or at least get a second opinion.

I've had achalasia for 20 years, had 1 open Heller, and am scheduled

for a 2nd open Heller on July 7th. I am overweight by about 60 lbs.

All my doctors have been nothing but supportive. The weight has

never come up or been an issue. My GI has even said that achalasia

won't kill you, but it's a lot for anyone to have to deal with or put

up with.

You need a doctor that you can trust, that's understanding, and that

you feel very comfortable with. After all, you're putting your life

in his hands. At the very least, you deserve someone who is not only

knowledgeable, but caring.

Please get a second opinion.

I agree - I give myself a big pat on the back everytime I get out of the

car, and into the gym - before I even do the workout! It gets easier, the

more you go. In fact, I'm in my 20th week, and I'm now out-of-sorts and

cranky if I have to workout at a different time, or do a modified workout

at home.

I get the nasal mist form of flu vaccine since I am allergic to latex and I've heard that there could be latex in the packaging or in the syringe or the vaccination itself. I always get a small case of the flu the week after I take the vaccine, but it's not nearly as bad as I used to get before I started getting the vaccine.

If I was getting the flu within a week or so of the vaccine, I'd

attribute it to the vaccine, but I will get the flu months after getting

the vaccine, so I must be finding the flu viruses that aren't covered by

the flu shot.

I have the slightest idea as to what did me in, but ever since that

faithful day, I have been sick. The date was October 1999. Although

my doctor encourages them, I refuse as I'm fearful as to what they

might do to me next.

,It is so good to hear from you. You are doing an awesome job. Keep up the good work! Cyrena Hey All

I haven't posted in a while but I have been reading everyday. You

guys are doing awesome. , your progress is amazing. I look

forward to seeing your birthday pictures and the smile on your face

when you've reached goal.

Genie I just checked out your pictures and my what a difference from

your pre-op picture. You are beautiful. How does Floyd like his

smaller girl?

-- wow you've had some great accomplishments and should be very

proud of your progress.

April was a tough month for me. While I did continue to lose I was

struggling so last week I had my 3rd fill and the scale is moving

again. I am down 67 pounds since October. I look great and feel even

better. Sometimes I catch my reflection in a window or mirror and

think who's that? Oh yeah, that's ME. I can't believe how different

I look. My self-esteem and self-confidence are improving.

Here's a funny, according to FitDay I only have a few more pounds to

lose (5 to be exact) before I move from being severely overweight to

only moderately overweight -- now that's disheartening -- but hey,

it's the journey that counts right? On the bright side, my BMI is now

29 which moves me from OBESE to just Overweight. It's also

signficantly better than the 40.9 BMI where I started. My

cholesterol is down from 210 to 170 too. Both GREAT NSVs --

especially for my body and being healthy.

I am having problems with getting enough protein and lately I've been

feeling sluggish. I'm also concerned about hair loss but I'm bumping

up the vitamins and focusing on the protein to help that out.

My goal for May is to hit the 168 by 5/31. I have not weighed in the

160's since 1992 -- 15 years ago -- WOW!! I post my pics every 25 lbs

so look for me by the month's end. I can do this. Life is good.

Best to you all!

Hi, everyone... I didn't get to share about the scare with my eyes a couple of weeks ago. The situation with my daughter came up and took priority. I go every year and have that picture of the back of my eyes to check for diabetic changes. Well, every year I get the card back saying they are fine. Not so this time. So I waited for them to send me another appointment card and about worried myself sick. My mom was almost totally blind from diabetes prior to her death last

May. My 10 year younger sister started having diabetic eye changes 4 years ago. Last year she had some pretty major changes which prompted her to lose over 118 lbs to date! (no surgery - just doesn't want to be blind!) I went in on April 24th. I have never had so many drops of stuff in my eyes. Some of it really hurt! Anyway, after all the tests the verdict was in....MY EYES SHOW NO DIABETIC EYE CHANGES AT ALL! So, now I need this surgery more than ever so the above doesn't happen . Thanks for listening. Jane
