Guest guest
Hi a, Welcome to the forum. Deafness is VERY socially isolating, as you are finding out. Often friends and family will say " never mind " rather than repeating or re-phrasing a sentence. The rephrasing is a good idea, because sometimes no matter how often a person repeats a word, if you don't get it, you just don't get it. So that's a help right there. Meanwhile, go to an Implant Center and get an evaluation. They will tell you if you are a candidate. Not just an ENT office, but a place that does Cochlear implants, because they are the ones qualified to make the judgement. You can have up to 60% comprehension in the best aided situation in your good ear, and up to 40% comprehension in the bad ear. If you have not had new hearing aids in a while, the implant center might suggest that you do a trial with new high power hearing aids. Often that is all that is needed. Tinnitus takes many forms, and music is an interesting one. Talk about travelling to the sound of your own music!! We should get all the tinnitus sufferers together and do the " All Tinnitus Marching Band " . LOL I see someone sent you the websites of the 3 implant companies. Good place to start. Get the basics, find a center, make an appointment. Be on the way to better hearing and getting your " sparkle " back!! No reason to delay this decision. The time to start hearing better is NOW. Ask any questions you have, we are all here to help you.
